From where you're staying, don't go too far East out of daylight hours.

So what do you mean by that? Dangerous area?

East London can be a bit dodgy, but it's not too bad.

For me the bigger factors are that it's dirty, there's not much to do there, and can be further out (and a longer tube ride) than it may seem on a map. East London is to me just a bit of a shitty area. Canary Wharf, and the O2 (millenium dome, on the Greenwich peninsula) are OK if you want to see modern entertainment complexes. Greenwich park is nice and the observatory and musuem are neat.

When I went to Mile End (I went to look at a uni close by) it was a shit hole. Maybe it's changed in the almost 25 years since.
