    Playing avi files

I have an avi file, but it only plays the sound. How do I get it to play the video also?

Sounds like you are missing some codecs.
The video and sound codecs can be two different things on some video formats.

    What player are you using?

Definitely sounds like missing codecs. Most likely either DivX or XVid. Rather than messing around trying to install the correct ones, just download VLC Media Player http://www.videolan.org/ and play the video using that as it plays pretty much anything out of the box.

If you haven't played a classic game in years, it's never too late to start!
