Will 80s retro gaming die with us?

The big interest in retro gaming at the moment was increased during Covid. Loads of people stuck at home started to explore how they could play the games from their youth.

But younger people won't be looking to explore games from our youth, they will be looking at games from their youth.

Does this mean when our generation is gone the interest in the games and systems from our youth will die with us?

There will be obvious games that always live on because they are so famous, such as the early arcade games Pacman, Space Invaders and Galaga. But what about home computer games on systems like the Spectrum, C64 and even the Amiga? They might live on in rom collections bundled with handhelds and other retro games systems, but as platforms I have a feeling they will be lost to time. Someone might play an Amiga game in 20-30 years time but not know what that is other than a retro category in their collection of games. It will be as much as no one alive knowing how the original platform worked, let alone what it looked like.

Bit sad to think it might go that way.

If you haven't played a classic game in years, it's never too late to start!

One reason more to get very old, because I agree with you.

I have a new guy working in my office, well he's there now almost 5 years. He's born 1999 and doesn't know even stuff from the late 80s, like Amiga is a big ? for him, and he doesn't seem interested at all either. He's kinda Nintendo fan, has also PS5 and PC, so he gets to know a bit of NES and SNES games due to the Nintendo shop, but nothing else.
