    Amiga 1200 NG

What you think about the A1200 NG?

    Here what i was thinking:
this Board is not a real amiga, is emulation, just like some other boards. But check this out:
    - It has a 1200 layout that you can put on your A1200 case.
    - has a ribbon cable slot so you can use your original keyboard, or a spare one.
    - DB9 ports
    - you can put your original floppy drive
    - You can use your original hd/floppy/power leds
    - you can plug your IDE
    - HDMI output
    - Wireless
    - Bluetooth
    - RCA audio output

from all "emulation" cards, this one looks the more "natural" and look a like card. Or should i say board?
It runs amibench but you can put you HDF files from winaue.
Just look at the board and say it is not the best looking board from all "emulation" !
Price? Around 207 Euros (shipping included)

From what i saw, it is a board made by amigakit.com

What you think about it? I never thought of buing a non-real-amiga, but this one... it looks fantastic.

The A1200NG is a nice setup if you have a spare A1200 case, keyboard and internal floppy drive, but it is quite expensive. The hardware on the motherboard is basically an Orange Pi, with the main board acting as an IO interface to give you all the original Amiga ports and internal connectors, So you can plug in a real floppy disk drive, an internal IDE HDD, a real Amiga mouse and joystick,

Technically it's identical to their older 600GS system which was a small form factor emulated Amiga slightly bigger than a Raspberry Pi in a box, The difference is you had to connect everything externally such as floppy drives, HDDs etc.

Puni owned a 600GS. He's covered it quite a lot on his blog, so that might give you some more ideas how the firmware and OS looks and runs.

    https://oldschoolgameblog.com/2024/1...from-amigakit/

They both use the same custom firmware and OS setup, The main interface it boots to is unique to this company. From the interface you can creatre a floppy disk image from a real Amiga disk, or write an image back to a real floppy disk, This alone could be invaluable if you have lots of floppy disks you want to archive to disk images for future save keeping, although this won't be as accurate as a Kryoflux for this purpose and it can't read every disk format like the latter can, The setup supports the latest Amiga OS 3.2 so that's good. It uses an SD card for it's main storage and comes with either a 64GB or 128GB card. It supports RTG graphics modes in Workbench and Wifi, so both great additions if you want to play around with the best setup you could create in Workbench,

It uses a custom version of the preinstalled Workbench setup AmiBench. Some try to state it's Amiberry but that's not true, although they might be utilising parts of that for the main firmware boot menu. But the Workbench install is AmiBench,

What do I think of the A1200NG?

It depends what you are looking to do, If you just want to play old Amiga games than the upcoming The A1200 will probably be all you need as it is designed to be plug and play like a console, It will come with 25 games built in and a rubbish controller (but you can use an 8bitdo adapter to use whatever you like). And you can load extra games via USB stick. But if you want to do far more than just gaming then seriously consider the A1200NG or it's little sister, the 600GS, They are not strictly plug and play like the The A1200, but that's the point, The A1200NG does come with quite a lot of licensed software already setup and ready to go from the main boot screen, such as PPaint, and you can load ADF and HDF files here to run an games, but that only a small part of it, The idea was to create a more complete emulation experience that gave you access to the original keyboard, floppy drive and IO ports to use other original pereferials,

I've been tempted to get an A1200NG, but I'm also tempted to get The A1200. I might end up with both, Not sure yet as I am still deciding if I would actually use both of them. I'm also waiting for more information on the The A1200 as we still don't know exactly what the hardware spec is. I already own an A500 mine, which the The A1200 is based on, but this new full sized one will come with The Settlers 2, which the A500 mini is not powerful enough to run (CPU isn't good enough to emulate an 060 and it doesn't have enough on board ram), so simply because that game is bundled suggests the hardware will be capable of much better emulation, and if that means an 060 in RTG then it will definitely interest me,

So at the moment I'm sitting on the fence until I see the full spec and The A1200 running before making up my mind on either of these systems,

If you haven't played a classic game in years, it's never too late to start!

Well the 1200ng looks better because i would use spare parts i have to build a 1200. Sure is emulation, but the physical format is the real thing. It looks and feels a real one, at least part of it. Yes there are other expansion cards that replace the cpu, video etc that do the same, but this one looks better. And look at this, a expansion card you put it on a real amiga board, this one replaces the full board. No more recap problems... i dont know, but looking at this a1200ng it looks like a real board and not just one more emulation... but in the end it is....
