I remember the hoo-haa when the original came out, people loved it. I never went to see it at the cinema - possibly from being a bit stubbornly contrary, possible laziness, who knows; but after it was out of the cinema i never really felt there was much point watching it at home. Same for the new one.

Maybe I'm just becoming more of a grumpy old man.

So you never saw the original? It was worth it. They are about the only films that have urilised 3D properly. But I suppose as the technology was invented for he first film that's not unsurprising.

Does it support the 48fps film rate used in this new Avatar? Problem is no home projector will have IMAX laser projector technology, regardless of how good it is. I hardly ever go to the cinema any more, but sometimes there are some films where it's really the only place to watch it as intended.

A dear friend of mine has a beamer & also never got on with 3D. His did a better job than the Cinema did, I'll grant that but.... meh!

My father in law was the only person I know that had a 3DTV (a Panasonic, but I forget the model number) and all the glasses. But, I never got to try it. And now it seems like the moment has passed me by.

It also had some oddities like an optional 'pen' that could be used to 'draw' on the screen. The pen thing was neat tech but the sort of thing that was destined to look groovy in a show room but very few people would ever be likely to actually buy it.

The 3DTV fad was very short lived. The smaller 3D sets were not that great. You had to be sitting in the sweetspot for it to work properly, and compared to the cinema it wasn't that good. For one it used a shutter system that meant you were looking at interleaved 25fps per eye. Giving a bit of a jerky flicker. A proper 3D projector would probably do a far better job. I never owned one but my brother-in-law had a 50" Samsung 3DTV I tried out. It was interesting, but not enough to make me want to buy one.

It looks indeed fantastic, a TV doesn't even get close, it's even better than in the cinema as it's not "too" big (mine is 108", well my screen is, the beamer can do even bigger). You also have to consider that the 3D glasses that come with it cost 150€ a pair, no cheap shit.

Er...... Watching porn on a TV/Panel/Project0r is one thing....

    But 3D??

F'k me, If I want 3D Porn, I grab Deb, do it for real, control where everything flies from the resulting excitement & stay safe.

F'k 3D..... trying not to get hosed down from the actors peak of excitement as he slews around letting go while you're jumping out of your seat trying to dodge his eJack!

Eewwwww! - So wrong in many ways....
