    Free Samsung SSD

You know when something looks too good to be true? Well I had an advert pop up the other day for a company offering a free SSD for the cost of postage. I dismissed it but later was going to investigate it a bit further, but couldn't remember the company. This morning i had the advert again so looked again and it seems to appear real. They take paypal so minimal risk and it's only £4.95 postage to pay so not much to lose if it doesn't arrive. So i just ordered one.

Do you think it was worth trying?

Hm? I can add as many disks to my basket as I want, it still stays on 0£. Plus the shipping for Luxembourg is even 0, not 4.95£. So basically I could order 10 disks completely for free.

Ah ok, if I try to order 10 I get following message: There are no shipping methods available for your cart or destination. Otherwise with only 1 I also get the 4.95£ shipping costs.

EDIT: Don’t know if this is someone fooling us, did a second order, on my father’s address, PayPal merchant is completely another one.

    First purchase:

    Merchant
    Bangle International
    LimeHerald@yahoo.com

    Second purchase:

    Merchant
    Abraham
    abrahamdampson3208@gmail.com

First one is already confirmed as shipped.

    Interesting. My PayPal receipt says:

    Merchant:
    Julian Hienstorfer
    hienstorferjulian@gmail.com

On the product page, the "Hurry Up! Sale Ends In xx:xx:xx" is obviously faked or broken as it starts counting down from 4:25 when you first visit the page. If you revisit from the same browser, it will still count down, but it you use another browser, it will start again. Likewise if you visit later on in the day, it will start again.

The "Only xx items left in stock" is also probably broken or faked. In Firefox, where I placed my order, there are 15 left in stock. In Chromium, there are 16 left in stock.

    Mine says Julian Hienstorfer too...

The site appears to be located in Canada, IP: 23.227.38.32 only alive for not even a month, so probably a scam.

Are we ****ed or can we just tell PayPal to revoke the order?

There's always Paypal's buyer protection. You can open a dispute within 180 days saying you did not receive the item, and escalate that after a week and unless the scam was really obvious Paypal should eventually refund the money.

I went for one as well, and posted about it on a discord channel where another couple of guys jumped on it. So now my reputation is at risk here too, Harrison!

Lol. Cheers mate! No pressure then.

Although it could be a scam, as said it is fairly safe as we are all using paypal and can pretty much guarantee we can get our money back, all be it not much to lose in the first place.

Really hoping it's real, but we will see.

The thought of a free SSD is appealing but why would they be just giving them away for free? They'd lose a fair bit of money I would have thought.

5 quid posting barely covers the time spent handling, the box, the labelling, the postage. If they had somehow accumulated a big surplus wouldn't it be cheaper just to sell on as a job-lot, or even just dump them?

I'm very doubtful you'll get what you're hoping for.
