    How many Amiga users

Hi, i know this is not the first post about it, but i would like a fresh ideia about it:

    - How many Amiga users there are all over the world in this categories:

    - Real hardware, any amiga computer (that use the Amiga at least 1 a month)
    - Emulation, how many?

I know is very hard to put numbers on the table, but can you try to give a number?
Active users, should it be more then 3000 ?

A few years ago I could have given you a fairly clear answer. Around 2010 we thought there were between 10-15k real Amiga users still using them. Not so sure now but I think it's dropped off a bit. I would estimate anything from 3k to 8k, but I really have no idea. A lot of people came back into the retro scene in the last 10 years on a bit of a nostalgic trip but then either packed them away or sold them again.

Finding a decent working Amiga seems to have become harder recently too as I've noticed prices of even a basic working A500 have shot up.

I could start a poll on AmiBay to help get an idea as we have over 3k active members out of over 11k.

I could also ask the Amiga Forever creators if they can tell us what they think their current customer base is. It wouldn't be the complete number of users using emulation but would be a good indicator.

There are some people that would like to know that. Someone that would like to make software or even hardware for the Amiga don't have a proper number of how many people may use that software/hardware, there is no site or statistic about it (at least that i know). Some sort of a Census would be good for any person interested in create something for the Amiga. I remember in the past someone making a pole about it. But it would have to be a more elaborated "Census". And it would have to reach everyone. Something different so that people would have interest in participate on it.

One idea I have because Amibay has such a large amiga userbase would be to hold a poll and send a group email to all members asking them to take part.

That would be good, but not all amiga users use amibay. People from "outside" would have to create an account to access the poll. I guess a lot of people would miss it.

It's the only large community I have any control over. A1k is probably the largest other community with the most Amiga users not on AmiBay.
