I've been wondering if I ought to try and build a new PC.

There isn't anything wrong with my current system, but I wouldn't mind future-proofing myself a little.

What sort of hardware tends to be good these days?

The Intel Core i5 seems rather tempting, but it looks like AMD have some decent offerings as well. Not sure what might be a good choice graphics card wise. I know the Intel graphics are supposedly well supported under Linux, but I gather they are still quite far behind the ATI and nvidia stuff.

How would one decide what chipset to go with?

Thanks for any suggestions.
