    Intel 6950X - What do you think?

    Intel's latest Extreme Edition consumer CPU is quite a mad spec.

    The Intel 6950X is the first Deca Core consumer CPU. Based on the older Broadwell-E core, as is common with Intel to get the most from the outgoing tech.

    It features 10 Cores (3GHz/3.5GHz boost unlocked) with hyperthreading, therefore meaning 20 Threads, and a massive 25MB Cache (2.5MB per core)! But even more impressive is that this cpu only has a max 140W TDP thanks to 14nm die reduction. That to me is impressive.

    It's also fully compatible with existing X99 chipset motherboards.

    The prerelease price was set at $1700, but actual prices are rumoured to be more likely $999. Still expensive for a consumer CPU.

    What do you think?

    Intel are also releasing some new 8 and 6 core CPUs which look interesting for those on smaller budgets. The most interesting for me being the i7 6900K. An 8 core processor (3.2GHz/3.7GHz) with 16 threads and has 20 MB of L3 Cache.* and currently listed as $550.

    It is one hell of a processor Dave. OCUK have them @ £1,399.99

    Productivity with these things is huge, but Skylake is better for Gaming.

    This CPU is way beyond itself as a Desktop processor.

    Jon, with the 2 x GTX1080's..... just recently bought a Cherry Picked 5960X CPU after a Sandybridge rig @ ~4.7Ghz for the last 4 years....
    He's doing 4.7Ghz on a Multiplier of 47 & 100fsb with ~75GB/Sec Memory bandwidth.

    Just an update;

    Jon's X99 & 5960X rig blew up. CPU went bang!

    The supplier refunded him & he bought Skylake instead. His Motherboard was £450 & he still managed to save £500!
