    * Implementation now supports analog and digital inputs / outputs
    * First step in a move to "terminals" being both input / output
    * Improved object model
    Pong:
    * Rewrote video code, now emulates a monitor by analyzing the analog
video signal and identifying vsync and hysnc pulses.
    * Removed all hacks.
Overall performance increase of about 10% over the previous "pongf"
    implementation.

sparse bitmap for tracking which areas got updated. This allows
sprites to be rendered independently to their own bitmap and then
mixed in a final step. Converted the Sega sprite device over to this
new model, and moved the mixing steps out of the sprite
implementations and into the driver- specific video updates where it
    belongs. [Aaron Giles]

-Added some further methods and helpers to the bitmap_t and rectangle
    classes. [Aaron Giles]

English / Japanese via dipswitch. But one set has a revised and corrected
service mode. [Brian Troha, Dave France, The Dumping Union]

D9060HD & ACB4070 devices to do the same thing [smf]

-Numerous jedutil tool improvements. [Kevin Eshbach]

Made some modifications to the jedutil tool to allow the viewing of
simple combinatorial jeds (adding support for registered and gals in
the future) by taking a jed file and printing out human-readable
equations. Changed the command line options of the jedutil tool to
know take an initial argument to specify what the tool should do.

For example to convert a jed to bin the command is now: jedutil
    –convert jedutil –convert

To view a jed file with human-readable equations the command is

device_execute/memory_interfaces respectively in order to catch
unnecessary usage of the corresponding device_t methods. Removed all

    * Set the PCR to 1 on reset
    * Update the PDF/PIF output pin states only when reading/writing the
    PDR/PIR registers.

rom names and added PCB locations. [Smitdogg, The Dumping Union]

    - PORT_ADJUSTER now accepts PORT_MINMAX as well. [Couriersud]

    - Implemented a generic implementation to model discrete net lists.
    [Couriersud]
    * Based on timeslot modelling, the implementation models gate delays
    in logic chips.
    * Design ready to be split into a generic and a MAME implementation
    part.
    * Design prepared to merge in discrete components from discrete.*
    * Supports code based as well as external net list parsing.
Ultimately, net lists and discrete emulation should share one code
base. The class design was set up to accomplish this. There is no
point in having multiple 555, 7474 implementations around. Most of the
code will be moved to lib/netlist going forward to allow usage in
    other projects.

    - Pong now uses netlist.h. This implementation reproduces all gate
timing and 555 related effects as described by Dr. H. Holden in his
2012 publication "ATARI PONG E CIRCUIT ANALYSIS & LAWN TENNIS".
    [Couriersud]

a result, another 500 or so sets have been added to the gamelist.

    - esd16.c: Move Jumping Pop from tumbleb.c to esd16.c and clean up said
    driver. [David Haywood]

    - Fixed AMD/ASD opcodes in the F8 CPU core. Status flags are set before

The torrent zipped split set is the existing format, so you can join the set with your existing torrent zipped 0.146 set to update.

The new merged set is a torrent 7zipped set. This reduces the size of the set greatly. The 0.147 set for example is 42.54GB as the old format torrent zipped split version, and only 28.23GB for the new torrent 7zipped merged set, so a huge saving in both disk space and download bandwidth needed. You will need to download and install 7z though to support it.

From what I've read they are planning to move over completely to the new 7zip merged sets for future MAME releases, and possibly for other rom/iso sets too. The great news with this is that is will mean much small rom sets taking up less HDD space and needed much less bandwidth down download credit. The bad news is that you will either need to download the whole sets in the new format again from scratch, or waste time converting your old existing torrent zipped sets into the new 7z sets.

I'm also thinking that if you are tempted to download any PD torrents you don't currently have, it might be worth waiting until these have been converted to the new 7z format, as the download will be smaller, and you can seed and update them in future without having to mess around with CLRMAMEPro to convert them.

A word of warning regarding re-downloading the whole of MAME sets again. Apparently PD are not taking kindly to people doing this and are saying they might even put people's accounts into their shitlist if they do it, even if they have a high upload ratio! Personally I think that is out of order if you have a good ratio. They are viewing it as abuse of their [free] torrents, but if you seed back more of the [free] torrent than you downloaded I hope that is seen as OK by them. They can be over strict with their rules though so be careful.

For me, joining the torrents with the existing sets means I've not had to download much to bring the sets up to date each time, but I normally manage to seed the whole set back to the tracker each version, so I download only a few GB each version (depending on CHD changes), but manage to seed over 400GB. I'm hoping they see that as good standing to download both versions of the new sets, as I really don't have the time to rebuild them for 7z manually at the moment.

Reading about the new merged CHD set, it appears to rebuild an older set to make the current on requires the older 0145 set, and not the last 0.146 set. With an existing 0.146 CHD set, even when rebuilt into a merged set in CLRMAMEPro, it will only join the new 0.147 CHD merged torrent at 30%. This is still a big chunk of about 68GB off the total size, but very annoying all the same as the complete chd set is 229GB. Very annoying to have to download so much again.

I started downloading the complete CHD set again some days ago, takes some time, but then I have again a new clean set.

I also joined my existing 146 romset with the new one, staring at about 90%, then ran it through clrmamepro, and now it's perfect, 0 roms missing of 26353.

I also did the same. I joined my existing rom set to the split torrent and it updated, but I did also download the smaller torrent7z merged set so I have both sets, because I think they will end up going the 7z route for all sets, but whilst they are still supporting the split set I wanted to continue being able to seed it back to help others downloading.

And I also started again with the complete CHD set. It was too complicated and time consuming to try and rebuild the older set to join the next set.

They don't seem to have released the 0.147 extras set yet though.

No, extras are not released yet. I think in the future we can go with the merged set, as MAME alo supports 7z, as far as I know, never tried.

I also never knew MAME directly supported 7z until these recent discussions on PD. Definitely great to shrink the rom sets.

I've got 7z already installed on all my systems, but do you know if it still work without 7z installed, and just MAME? I ask because I'm going to be giving a friend a copy of the current MAME set on a HDD for the first time and the easiest lightweight setup of MAME would be best.

No idea? Like I said, this is the first time they have a merged 7z set, and I didn't try it yet, still have my normal split set installed.

New CHD set has just been posted and the existing 0.147 CHD set flagged as a broken set, so we have to download again!
