    Amiga Power Supply

    Hi All
Just got back to doing amiga stuff again decorating gets int he way of every thing.
Any way just tried my A1200 power supply and nothing
So i decided to convert a pc power supply and it seems to work, lights came on + floppy drive clicking.
That's as far i have got so here's where i got it from. I used the Amiga connector lead from dead A1200 power supply.
In the first pic the red+black wire in middle of pic they have an led on the end so you know when power is on.
In the second pic the top right wire from connector blocks is brown.
Taken with my camera on the phone.

Cool. It is fairly easy to convert a PC PSU for the Amiga, as long as you have a spare Amiga connector (from a dead Amiga PSU is ideal). And with most Amiga's now around 20 years or older the original PSUs are all going to fail at some point, so this alternative is good.

Are you going to be putting it into a case?

I've had a Galiath PSU from back in the 90's, which was a converted PC PSU for the Amiga, and have since swapped the original PSU out of that for a newer one, so that casing was very useful for the job. Not sure what alternative cases could be used...

Something I did in the past for the PSU conversion itself was to add a Molex connector to the end of the Amiga cable, which plugs straight into any spare ATX PSU Molex connector available, and all that is needed is to either permanently short the PSU's motherboard connector soft on pins for it to power up, or add a switch to the pins.

    Hi Harrison
No i wont be put in a case i am going to tidy up the wires and leave all the molex connectors on. it's wired at the moment to see if it works which it now does.
I will be getting rid of the big motherboard connector and leaving the wires that are needed. I am using this pc power supply because it has an on/off switch on it and
it was easy to wire up.
    Many Thanks
    Andrew

    Update
No floppy drive light but got power and hdd drive light. Most likely to be the wire i soldered on in the wrong place maybe !!
could some one please tell me where all the wires go. it was the orange one that came off . But other wise A600 all done and working again

Check the keyboard connectors near the floppy drive if you have opened the A1200 up as the 3 Amibay lights are connected via a header near the floppy drive. Just trace the wires back from the LED panel to the Amiga motherboard.

    Hi All
Well i am psu number 2. Not sure what happened to it was probably me cut the wrong wire or something.
Any way PSU no 2 is a better one nice big fan on it. and it's a 250 watt. need to tidy up the wiring + extend some wire for the switch. Now got get some more cable ties .
It's been a fun small job
    Many Thanks
