    Review of the AmigaOne X1000

    Hi guys,

I've just posted a review of the AmigaOne X1000 on my blog. The review was written by an Amiga user called AmigaNG.

You can find the review here:

    Hope you like the review.

Thanks for posting that. Very interesting read, and great to see it running in the videos.

If I had money to spare I would definitely buy one as a hobby machine. It would be a great feeling to buy and own a brand new Amiga. But...

For me the issue is Amiga OS4. It still doesn't feel that different to AmigaOS 3.1 to warrant spending so much on a new system. The way the OS works and the software available still feels 20+ years old. The UI really needs a complete overhaul. Since the more recent versions of OS X and Windows 7 it is falling behind more and more and looking even more dated. And with my A1200 and A4000 I can enjoy and play around with everything released for the classic Amiga. With OS4 and PPC you are still really restricted to a enthusiast community and a very limited range of software releases. For that reason I don't think I would actually use it much if I had one, and would still end up using WHDLoad on my A1200 a lot more, or OS3.9 on my A4000/40.

I think it is one of those systems you would be obsessed by for the first few weeks and then lose interest in once you ran out of anything new to play around with. But like I said, if I had spare money I would still get one just to be able to play around with it and the community development it attracts.

If you haven't played a classic game in years, it's never too late to start!
