    [PS3] - Jailbreak 2

There's some activity on the PS3 again, and maybe in the near future we will get a new jailbreaking device. Although you will have to run the 3.60+ games from BD discs.

It's true and it's blue ... now what's Sony gonna do when the latest jail breaking dongle comes to modshops near you. The "True Blue" dongle behaves similar to earlier jailbreak devices; however, this one supports firmware 3.60+ required games, up to 3.73, and does not require the power/eject trick. And no -- no PSN access. But if you've managed to keep your PS3 at 3.55 or lower, then True Blue is for you.

True Blue requires a "special" BD-R disc for 3.60+ games to work; these blank Blu-ray discs will be available from official resellers as well. Once we know the resellers we'll share 'em with you. So you will require the dongle + these particular discs for everything to work properly ... at least for now anyway.

    True Blue Features

    - Booting of games from v3.6+ (up to v3.73) from special BD-R discs available from official resellers
    - Runs games up to v3.56 from HDD in conjunction with 'backup managers'
    - Does not require the Power/Eject trick
    - Custom v3.55 Dongle firmware behaves like OFW when 'True Blue' is not inserted
    - Manufactured from highest grade components and Actel based
    - Durable and high quality metal case design
    - Tough and durable plastic packaging
    - Further features to be added as they are developed
    - On board 2 MBytes SPI flash
    - Supports Fat and Slim consoles currently running any firmware up to v3.55
    - And any PS3 which can be downgraded from v3.6+ to v3.55 (NOTE: Requires other tools, 'True Blue' currently can't downgrade a Console)
    - Supports all regions of consoles
    - Supports all regions of ISO’s to be released
    - Rock solid crystal oscillator on board for flawless timing

The 'True Blue' dongle allows booting of the latest the ISO’s (3.6+) from special BD-R discs which can be purchased from all official resellers.

The discs can be burned by any BD-R recorder and there are no special requirements on either PC or BD burner types.

Whilst we can disclose that the discs are specially manufactured to allow booting of the latest ISO’s, further technical information on the way by which the BD-R discs can allow booting cannot be provided, for obvious reasons.

    Some news:

Previously we reported that the True Blue jailbreak dongle (or JB2) would require special blank BD-R discs for 3.60+ games to work properly; these discs would be sold alongside the device from official resellers, who we still don't know yet. Well, you can scratch all that "special" Blu-ray nonsense now because the hardcores behind True Blue have figured a means to using regular, plain ol' BD-Rs ... nothing special here -- just get the dongle, burn your games, and play 'em.

Here is the full, long list of 3.60+ games reported working with True Blue:

    Alice: Madness Returns
    Assassin's Creed: Revelations
    Battlefield 3
    Bleach: Soul Resurreccion
    Bodycount
    Cabela's Big Game Hunter 2012
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
    Call of Juarez: The Cartel
    Captain America: Super Soldier
    Catherine
    Child of Eden
    Dark Souls
    Dead Island
    Deus Ex: Human Revolution
    Dirt 3
    Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi
    Dungeon Siege III
    Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3
    F.E.A.R. 3
    F1 2011
    GoldenEye 007: Reloaded
Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2
    Just Dance 3
    Madden NFL 2012
    Metal Gear Solid HD Collection
    NBA 2K12
    Need for Speed: The Run
    No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise
    Portal 2
    Rage
Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One
    Rayman Origins
    Record of Agarest War Zero
    Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny
Saints Row: The Third Shadows of the Damned
    Silent Hill: Downpour
    Skylanders Spyro's Adventure
    Sonic Generations
    Supremacy MMA
    Tekken Hybrid
    The Adventures of Tintin
    The Cursed Crusade
    The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
    The King of Fighters XIII
The Lord of the Rings: War in the North
    The Sims 3: Pets
    Thor: God of Thunder
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Trilogy HD
    Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3
    Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
    Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine
    White Knight Chronicles II
    WWE '12

And I'd imagine there are more.
    Shortly later:

Shortly after yesterday's True Blue update, the team sent word again that booting 3.60+ required games direct from the HDD is now possible -- no "special" or regular blank Blu-ray discs required, in fact no discs at all. But now the real question is: Is True Blue even necessary? With all these game/EBOOT patches coming out, like this and this, who needs a new jailbreak dongle? Don't get me wrong, True Blue could lead to bigger and better things, especially when/after it's reverse engineered ... plus patching games can get pretty dirty.

    Updated True Blue Features

    - Booting of all games designed for v3.6+ (up to v3.73) from BD-R discs and HDD
    - Runs your existing games and new games up to v3.73 from HDD in conjunction with 'backup managers'
(NOTE: 'Backup Manager' are not supplied with the dongle, end-user installs his choice of personal 'homebrew')
    - And any PS3 which can be downgraded successfully from v3.6+ to v3.55
(NOTE: Requires other tools, 'True Blue' currently can't downgrade a Console)
    - Supports all regions of consoles
    - Supports all regions of v3.6+ games
    - Rock solid crystal oscillator on board for flawless timing

I asked myself the same question if True Blue is really still necessary, as EBOOT patches come out quite fast, although not for every game. So far there's the patches for Battlefield 3 and Uncharted 3, which gives me some time before I will need another one.

I'm currently playing Uncharted 3, journal "bug" is fixed, just made a pause now to eat something, gonna continue in 2 minutes

I only had one freeze so far, beginning of chapter 3, but I reloaded, and then it worked. Hopefully there will be not too many freezes, best would be none at all.

Until now it's really good, but not better than the 2nd. The "WOW" effect was also bigger from the 1st to the 2nd, than from the 2nd to the 3rd. Although the visuals are again very excellent. I'm in chapter 10 now.

Despite not playing video games much at all of late, and already having a media centre PC under the telly.... all this talk of PS3 modding (and how easy it seems to be at first glance) is really tempting me to go out and get one if I can find it for cheaps....

Just remember you will need to find a PS3 running FW3.55. New PS3's probably all have FW3.6 or newer already loaded so you won't be able to jailbreak them and run your own software.
