Just done a bit of research. I'm 99% sure I'm actually on the old fashioned fixed speed ADSL, rather than DSLMax. That would explain why my modem continuously syncs at 2272kbps down and 288kbps up .

No idea why it keeps dropping out though. Unfortunately I can't really contact PlusNet myself so I will probably be stuck with this for the forseeable future .
