Interesting. Now to see if the hack can be updated to get around the update!

This could turn into another cat and mouse game between the hackers and Sony, just like the PSP custom firmware.

I just read that you can hack (ok, not anymore since 3.42) your PS3 with the Dingoo by using PSFreedom (by Waninkoko who we know also well from the Wii), check out this video:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEm7-...layer_embedded

So there will be no need to buy that expensive PSJailbreak USB device, as you can also use many other devices like mobile phones or even calculators. And it seems to be very easy, at least for the Dingoo, just replace one file (zImage) on the memory card, boot (in Dingux mode), then it will behave like the PSJailbreak stick, and you can launch the backup manager.

Lucky me, I still have 3.41 on my PS3, and I now tested the whole thing with my Dingoo. I works like a charm! It's only still difficult to get downloaded games running, as there's problems with the eboot.bin file, because the backup manager is still in an early stage (v1.0). You can make backups of originals to internal or external HDD though.

My 2nd Dingoo had already Dingux on it, so I only had to replace the zImage file. Then you disconnect the PS3 (power off), plug the Dingoo to it (switched on), and then reset it again and boot into Dingux. After that you power the PS3 back on. Then you push the ON button, and immediately after you hold the eject button for 1 second, now it boots in dev mode. Then you can plug in a USB device, I used a stick. You put the backup manager in the root, and install it (in dev mode you have more options in the games section). Once installed you can launch it and backup or run games from HDD or USB.

I tried 2 games now, WipeOut HD and 3D Dot Game Heroes and they both run fine from my external USB stick. Although the games you download cannot be installed to internal HDD, at least there's no such option at the moment.

Great that it works. Has there been any news on development to overcome the new firmware update?

They say that a new version of the backup manager will come out soon. Will have to look forward to that.

The hackers always seem faster at continuing to update their hacks, than the developers are at stopping them. We see it all the time on the Wii and PSP for example.

They should just give up, and instead concentrate on adding features and incentives into their firmware/OS to make users want to pay for their games. Online only content for verified copies of games is definitely once part that always makes me buy them.

I installed now an ftp server on the PS3 which allows me to copy downloaded games directly to the internal HDD via ftp client, and that works fine. Also tried to do a backup from an original game to internal HDD, and that also works fine
