I'd also like to see the photos.
Out of interest, why did they choose to employ you and not someone who already lived in Australia? Does Australia have a shortage of scientists?

It's a good question, Steve. Australia as a country has been trying to expand its science industry and that does entail getting workers from afar, especially as many australians do like to work abroad themselves.
I think the key reasons they brought me out here were my experience and my willingness to move. There aren't a huge number of people that have experience with these techniques, and a lot of them are already settled in jobs. The facility is also a fair way from Sydney, which may have made people reluctant to move out here. I know that this job was advertised a number of times before I applied, and in reality I don't think there were many other applicants (if any).
I did apply for another similar job in Sydney around the same time as this one I'm in now, and that was given to someone that already had work rights in Australia (think they may even have been a citizen). In all likeliness, with two candidates that are roughly equivalent, the one that already has the rights and is in the country would be preferable (understandably so). This place had to spend time and money getting the visa sorted and then me out here.

Some great pics JT. Some of the landscape shots look amazing. A complete contrast to the UK.
If you haven't played a classic game in years, it's never too late to start!

It's rented, but yes that is where we are staying until at least Feb. After the lease term expires we might move closer to the city, where the winter will be a bit milder and there will be more life.
There will be more pics to follow, we've taken tons already. Most of the good ones are taken by The Lady, she has a much better eye for a shot than me.
Looks nice.
Are you likely to be staying in Australia indefinitely then?
