I also used to play Elite on the school Beebs whenever I could. It is amazing to think the game is now 25 years old. Still just as playable and still amazing how huge the game is.
Do you think that Elite 4, however it is designed and whenever it is released will ever live up to the original? Frontier was a great sequel, but it still didn't have the huge impact of the original.
If you haven't played a classic game in years, it's never too late to start!

Having been playing c64 Elite over the past few days I can safely say it's better on 8 bit. Improved graphics and speed seem to take some of the soul away.

I think part of the charm of wire-frame graphics was that it suggested the objects but you had to use your imagination to fill in the rest.

Thanks v85rawdeal. What a great time it would have been to push Elite IV in the news too.
The PS3 would be an ideal machine for a kind of real world space trade game, in the style of Elite of course. Instead of PShome, we'd have Elite Home, or world, or whatever.![]()
And even more news... (albeit a bit old)
