    Question Odd PC search bahaviour

I have an odd thing happening on one of my computers. Whenever I try and access Google, instead it tries to access http://geocities.com/Cybernet360/

I've run rootkit revealers and found nothing, and also the latest antivirus and still nothing (AVG and AVAST, and also some online ones), also the HOSTS file doesn't have anything in.

What could be causing it? I've searched Google for the URL but still get nothing. And there's no IE toolbars etc installed. It's most weird!

It defintely sounds like a trojan or similar script is somewhere on your system.

First though I would clear your cookies and complete browser history. It might be a cookie automatically redirecting to the other site. Alternatively it can be a bad bookmark in your favourites.

I looked up Cybernet 360 and it is an IE toolbar searchbar, which might explain something. Although normally searchbars do show up in add/remove programs and can be removed. But some hide and won't easily let you remove them. You might also need to search the registry for any instances of Cybernet360 and delete the keys.

Spybot and Adaware of course are great. Recently when I repaired a friends PC that was literally taken over by Adware and trojans I found THIS yielded results the others did not and removed them perfectly, give it a go!

Yep, the free combination of Spybot and Adaware are always good at removing the horrible stuff that secretly gets installed.

However there is a commercial spyware product called PC Tools Spyware Doctor which I've found to be the best, but obviously costing money. It seems to catch and remove things that the free ones still miss.

You can always try the free version of IOBIT Security 360 that's in it's Beta 3.1 stage. It's very quick, easy to use and stable.
