    HDD prices continue to fall!

I just saw that you can now buy a 1.5TB HDD from Samsung for just £79.99. This is quite an amazing price when you think that at the end of last year a 1TB drive was over £100.

And 1TB Samsung drives are now £59.99, so there really is no excuse to run out of HDD space now.

However, in contrast ram prices seem to be going up! When I purchased ram for my new machine 4GB of Corsair DDR2 XMS2 ram cost me £32, which is why I purchased 8GB But I just noticed that the same 4GB ram bundle is now up to £46.99. Why is ram going up in price?

SSD (Solid State Harddrive) are coming down in price as well, and their capacity is increasing. You can already get 250GB versions but they are still mad prices. A 256GB 2.5" Corsair drive costs £539.96 at the moment! Ouch! And even a 32GB drive costs £75.87 with isn't worth it when you consider you can now buy a 1.5TB drive for the same price.

That's really cheap. I might consider changing my 2 500GB HDDs in my barebone system (mirrored HDDs), as they're near full and emulation sets are always growing, or even newer ones come out. But I don't want to have all the work now to move the files and everything.

That is very true. The emulation sets continue to grow in size and we never have enough HD space. The 1TB drives in my emulation system are already nearly full.

At least these days with SATA it is very easy to add more drives to a system. Huge improvement over PATA IDE drives of the past.

Yep, but not in a barebone system, I only have space for 2 disks. And if I change these disks, then I should use the 500GB diisks in my other system, and have to repalce them with the smaller ones. Time consuming, but I will probably do it one time, just not now.

How's the performance on Solid State drives? Comparable to regular HDDs? I'm quite interested in the technology, mainly because silence and reliability is more important to me than raw storage capacity, or even speed.

A Solid State drive as the main drive, coupled with a couple of external HDDs for storage only seems like a good combo for everyday use.

Make that greater then any of the regular HD's used today.
Seriously, I've seen some tests on installing & running Win7 and they were much better.
Can't seem to find those now...

    Neatness. Thanks.

Here's to hoping the prices will come down some more.
