I would love to own a PPC system running OS4.1, but realistically it is a pointless purchase.

With the classic range of Amigas, even though the system is now long dead as a commercial system, we still have so much software for the system to use. Over 4000 commercial games just for starters. You can run a classic Amiga and still be exploring and enjoying new (to you) software for years to come.

In contrast the PPC branch of the Amiga OS is purely a novelty. Created purely to prove it could be done, and while it is great to see a newer version of the Amiga OS, running on newer hardware, it is mostly unsupported and has hardly any development, especially commercial. Therefore after having a play around with the system and its OS where are you left? OK, if all you did was surf the internet, send a few emails, chat with friends over IRC and maybe a couple of other things then it might serve you as a system for regular use. But personally I can't see such a purchase getting much use from me after the initial novolty has worn off.

If you haven't played a classic game in years, it's never too late to start!

I'm still very interested in purchasing a system, but unfortunately it is too expensive for me at the moment.

no way, it's too expensive for me. I bought the OS 4.0 classic, just to 'support the cause' (I have OS 4 compatible setup, CSPPC, but honestly I'm much comfortable at classic 68k) but OS 4.1 + hardware is too expensive a purchase and I'm sure I'll never use it to an extent to justify that purchase.

I think you resumed in this part pretty well my thought about this.

I was giving a serious thought last January to acquire a SAMflex, but after seeing the (retail) price of it, it is just nuts. No one can justify a senseless buy for OS4.1 in my opinion.

Classic Amiga OS as much more to offer 'for the fun' of it, compared...

About a week ago, I'd finally managed to save up some cash for a SAM440EP. Placed an order a few days ago, so I'm now eagerly awaiting for the hardware to arrive in the post. Will be great fun to explore this machine and AmigaOS 4.1. I agree that it was expensive, but personally I feel its worth it. Have already looked into different programming-languages and applications, so I'm looking forward to start creating stuff for this platform.

It might have been worth waiting for the X1000 to be released as that would have forced the price of the SAM440EP down as people jump ship to the X1000, and also sell their SAM systems to raise money for the X1000.

However, it is still an OS4 system, and I can imagine it will be great to finally be able to try the OS out for real. Did you ditch the Mac Mini idea?

When you get the SAM please post some pictures? I would love to see it up and running.
