    Question Floppy Problem?

Hi had amiga as a kid and just bought a 500+ but it only reads floppy disk when first turned on it loads and works fine but if there is no floppy inserted when turning it on it wont recognize when one is inserted at animated insert disk screen.
is this normal or a problem ??

    Hi Ryan and welcome

I've never had that problem with any of my Amigas but it could be down to a few things. The most common is that the drive needs cleaning. Two methods are to use a floppy disk cleaner or to open up the drive and clean it with some electrical cleaner and cotton buds.

Alternatively it could be a faulty chip on the motherboard. But I would try cleaning the drive first.

If you haven't played a classic game in years, it's never too late to start!

Is it possible that the floppydrive in your 500+ isn't the original drive, but an unmodified PC-device?
I'm asking, because what you describe reminds me of how my miggy acted when I had replaced it's original drive with one from an old junk-PC.
