    Buffalo Linkstation Upgrading

I was wondering if it was possible to upgrade my Buffalo Linkstation NAS with a larger HDD.

I came across this great Wiki devoted to the Buffalo series of NAS drives and it has loads of information.

    http://buffalo.nas-central.org

And it seems quite straight forward to replace the existing HDD with a new one. With my Linkstation, which is the oder version 1 HD-HLAN model the firmware is held on a chip, so all you need to do is open the case, swap the drives over (setting the new drive as Master), then switch the Linkstation back on and it sets up the new HDD and builds the file system. You can then flash the Linkstation using a piece of software from the site above, and you are ready to go again.

Full details on this process are here.

Newer Linkstations don't hold all of the firmware in their chip, but instead store a lot of it on the HD itself, so for them you need to connect the existing HDD to a PC and clone the HDD to the new one, then swap the drives over. Sort of a similar process to one of the methods to replace an HDD on an Xbox.

All I need to do now is try to find out the largest size HDD my Linkstation supports. It would be great if it can take a 1TB Samsung drive.
