    PSP-Devolution

New PSP Flash Chip. Once installed, you can flash the PSP via USB. Works with all available PSPs on the market. Even "bricked" consoles can be revived. The team currently develops a custom firmware with a lot of features. The installation of the chip will be a lot easier than with the Undiluted one.

For features, read the article here.

That's interesting, but with the Dark_AleX firmware, is a PSP modchip really needed any longer?

True, it is great for creating firmware backups that you can just flash straight back to the PSP without having to do any upgrading or downgrading via the PSP itself and also to unbrick a bricked PSP. But other than that I can't see any real reason.

It is better that the internal USB port can be used as that is the main annoying thing about the UP having its own USB connector from the battery compartment.

The biggest advantage of a chipped PSP is development though. I expect Dark_AleX and other firmware hackers would be stuck with out the ability to hack firmware and text it, without the worry that a bricked PSP can be recovered easily from the flash backup.

This could however be a good option for the TA-082 and 086 owners.

That's true. As for other models you don't need a modchip, as it's so easy to use with the fw of Alex. As for myself, I don't care, I'm not buying a PSP anyway (in near future).

Have you not even been tempted by the ability to play all the great PSX RPGs on the PSP now? Plus there are some nice RPGs on the PSP itself such as Astonishia Story.

But I've actually been noticing the DS has been getting a lot of RPGs lately, including a remake of FF3.

No. If I play them, I'd rather play on my TV than on a PSP. I'm no mobile gamer, only handheld I have is an MB Microvision from 1979 (already with exchangeable ROMs).

I played Valkyrie Profile:Lenneth on Oz PSP, it was pretty good, but seriously, I'm not gonna play a game for 50 hours on a PSP

Ok, I have a PSP, and all these terms....

bricked: I'm assuming when you try to downgrade and you stuff it up and it becomes useless

    flash: ?

So why do you have to downgrade it to be able to use it for emulation?
