Nah, it's not the same. On the Dreamcast for example I could run backup copies of any game from any region, but could only run originals from the PAL region. And the DC-X boot disc I also had allowed the running of Import originals from NTSC regions but would not allow any backups to run.
If you haven't played a classic game in years, it's never too late to start!
Hm. I didn't test it on DC, as I only have backups for it, and they all boot automatically.
If you tried to run Jap or US originals of DC games on a PAL DC it won't work. I imported DC games from the US that never got a PAL release and had to also get the DC-X boot disc so I could run them.
