    Laptop DDR II memory question

    I have an Asus A6va with 1GB of RAM (2x 512MB).
The RAM is DDR II pc-4300 266mhz (533).

Asus says that i can expand to a total of 2GB (1GB in each slot).

    The question is:
DDR II pc-4300 533mhz (2x266mhz ?) are not easy to find, everywhere i go, i only find DDR II at 633mhz. Will it work? I guess my mboard supports 533 so any higher mhz then that will be limit to 533. So i will buy 633 but they will work at 533? Is that it? As long as it works... for me is ok

In asus forum someone say that i can put 633mhz DDR II in my asus, i just want to double check.

Faster memory should work no problem. It will simply be run at the slower FSB speed (533 MHz). As long as the form factor is correct (ie. the size of the DIMM and the amount of pins), the BIOS should take care of any configuration.

It might depend on the latency of the ram you use. Some higher speed ram might have strange timings that the laptop doesn't like.

I just looked up your laptop model in the Crucial ram site and it states that it can use DDR2 PC2-5300 or DDR2 PC2-4200 SODIMMs.

Crucial have a 2GB ram kit for your model for £35.84 including VAT. You can look at the UK page for your system here. I've ordered ram directly from Crucial a number of times and it is good quality and a good price.

The EU and Spanish versions of the Crucial site have the 2GB kit for €31.71

Oh yeah, was a typo, sorry. Only £25.84 for 2GB of ram for a laptop is pretty good.

I'd not heard of 7dayshop before. Has it been around long? And have you ordered from them yourself?

I'd like to know if anyones ordered from them before as they've some memory there for my computer at a fraction of the price of any where else. And if they're good i may get some and possibly some new bits for my PC.

My local shop has the 1GB DDR II 633 for +/- 20 euros. So 2 x 1GB is the maximum i can get in Asus A6VA, 2x20=40 euros, it's a bit more then crucial, but i dont pay shipping costs. But i will look for other shops
