Ashes to Ashes or Space oddity

Ashes to Ashes the follow up to Life on Mars started last night and i was wondering what people thought of it. Personally i thought it wasn't as good a LOM but if you ignored all the problems with stuff not around in 1981 (Yuppies, Phone cards, video evidence) which can be explained by the fact that its not the real 1981 but Alex Drakes memories of the 80's i thought it was watchable although i'm not sure about a more vulnerable Gene Hunt. They were right about Alex Drakes puppies though.

I am a little unsure of this new series too. It didn't grab by straight away like LOM did. There wasn't the same feeling of nostalgia.

The biggest problem for me wasn't her. She was playing her character's part quite well. For me it was the over the top hamming up by Hunt and the other officers. Especially the gun shoot up near the end and the boat coming down the thames.

For me one element that made the original so good was how accurate that made LOF to the 70s. With AtA, instead of making it accurate to the time period they have instead made it accurate to the shows of the time like the A-Team, where guns were fired point blank at the enemy and yet they came away with the mildest of scratches!

I hope it gets better and this was just them getting into the series.

If you haven't played a classic game in years, it's never too late to start!

The A team reference was another fault. That didn't start until 1983 in America. Again it can all be explained away as Alex Drakes version of the 80's as the real Alex would only have been small so all those early years would have been condensed so there will be mistakes but as a small child she would know that in the 80's everyone had guns and fired thousands of rounds without hitting everyone or if they did it was never off a machine gun but always off a single shot from a revolver because thats what happened in 80's TV shows.

Yeah, but I personally think it's going a little too far with the artist license. As I said above, LOM was so good because of the realism. If they take the fantasy elements of the 80's too far it will ruin it.

Found a great page with a load of Huntisms. Some of the files don't work but most of the good ones do.

One of my favorites is "He's got fingers in more pies than a leper on a cookery course"

You can attach files up to 2MB if you wish. Not sure if I currently have MP3 is one of the formats, but if not I can add it, or you could attach it as a zipped or rar'ed file.
