I think I downloaded MAME V 0.122 itself yesterday from the MAME developer site but I did not download any roms with it.
I still had a few roms to try it out with.

MAME itself is just the emulator. The complete MAME set is the full set of every game rom that the emulator supports. Therefore to gain access to ever game you will need to download the rom set in addition to the actual emulator.

However did you just download MAME? If so this is a commandline version. It is better to download MAMEUI32 as it will give a proper frontend to the emulator.

    Hello Harrison,

Dammit, this is why I find this so frustrating. I barely have a clue of what to look for and when I do the knowledge only stays for a short while with me before I loose it again.
I also had that with WINUAE, making it impossible for me to have fun with emulators.

It is easy with MAME though. No matter how many of the supported roms you have, when you run MAMEUI it audits the roms and you can list those you have in the Available section of the frontend. Very easy to use and run.
