    washing A1200 Keys - attempt

First attempt to wash the A1200 keys
I remove all the keys from the Amiga an put them in the dishwasher. They are still yellow, i was not able to
remove that yellowing... i must try a different solution...
In the photos i put a key in right position and other upside dowm so you can see the difference.
The original color was that one you can see in keys upside down.

So what can ido more? I am leaving the space bar in... how do you call that wc cleaning product? lye? is that it?
am leaving it in lye during the night to see if it removes some yellowing

    lye? Do you mean bleach?

I think that the yellowing we get is due to the use of a poor photosensitive plastic in manufacture which has started to degrade and basically rot. This means that there is no way to get rid of the yellow only stopping the rot by not allowing the case etc to be in direct sunlight.

Yep, and it seems to effect the keys of the A1200 more than the case, whereas with the A500 the plastic of the case was different and yellowed much more (just look at that A500 I have!).

I would be careful using bleach or similar cleaning products because they can corrode plastic if too strong and would start dissolving the keys!

    BTW, did it work?

Ah, that would probably be Cilit Bang. JT's favourite cleaning product.

As Cilit Bang is supposed to easily clean everything, maybe we should invite Barry Scott in to clean our Amigas.

He's only a puppet. Besides we could try giving Barry Scott agargle in Cillit Bang to see if it'll clean up his anoying voice.
