Woke up to a light dusting of just 1-2 cm. My wife just rang to say it's snowing heavily just a few miles away, on her way to work, so wr could get more today. Will take some pictured if more arrives.
So, anyone else in the uk have any snow today?
And how is the rest of Europe?
About an inch or so. Started last night and whilst it was heavy earlier it's lighter again.

I was just thinking. I much prefer snow to rain. You can pick the flood up and move it! :lol:

I also prefer snow. It brushes of my jacket easier than rain :D.
We got snow today. Maybe an inch or two.
Snow? Temperature here didn't go bellow 10º celcius
Even with 0 degrees is very hard to snow, maybe because Lisbon has the ocean close to it.
We had snow since 2 days here in Luxembourg, although not a lot, but the temperature dropped again to -7.
Winter here started for the first time at the beginning of December, the temperatures weren't that low, around 0 celsius at night and above 0 in the day, so it was white while it lasted for just a couple of days.
A week ago it started to snow again, the temperatures went way lower, at first it was around -5 at night and ~0 during the day, but went down in the last couple of days to over -15 during the night and around -5 during the day.
Still hasn't snowed that much, maybe 2-4cm's, that's nothing. I remember them snowdrifts being almost 2 meter high a few winters ago, fun fun days. :D
Amazing. :blink: - We had a dusting of snow about an hour ago & then a heavy downpour that mushed it away.
I just got up now, and we have 10cm of snow outside.
Nice. How good are they in Luxembourg at clearing the roads? In the UK that has always been a problem as we don't have the machines to clear it when we get a lot.

It's ok, they start in the early mornings to salt the roads, and they clean the highways with bigger trucks.
150mm of Snow is expected to hit the UK from the West, on Friday this week. :eyebrow:
I heard that. From the west means I probably won't see much, if any. Not so good for those of you in the west though.
We might be extreme South West here in Cornwall, but we are not supposed to be getting snow. Everyone East of Plymouth is getting large amounts of it though, all the way over to the East coast & North of Plymouth through to Scotland. Higher ground will get significant amounts. We're lucky down here in so far as, the Gulf Stream (North Atlantic Drift) keeps things slightly warmer. That's why we have Plam Trees in our gardens & countryside, with Dolphins, sharks & Seals off our coastline. It's too cold for the Palm Trees to grow naturally much further East & north of Cornwall & Dolphins & Sharks don't reside on land. :PQuote:

Winters should be snowy, it's a tradition so it's fun for me too. :)

Shonnay i only saw snow like that in Swissland in 2011. Me and my girlfriend went to the mountains in engelberg-titlis we went to +/- 3000 metters
and we had some snow like that, it was the only time we saw. We have a mountain in Portugal with 2000m and in winter we have snow, but the times i went there it was more ice then snow, not that nice white snow.
Worst snow I saw was when my wife decided to go to New York for the week with her best friend a few years ago. It was the worst snow they had in 100 years when they arrived. The first norming they woke up in their hotel room about 4 feet of snow had fallen that night. The photos she took were mad. If I can find some of them I will upload them.
I'm already used to go to Finland around Christmas time in December, or in February, and they always have at least 1m of snow from October until March, very different from here. But it really looks nice, and all the BIG lakes are even frozen, looks like a snow tundra.

Yeah, I remember seeing some of those pics back in the AmiBay days.....
At the time of posting, the wind has stopped along with the rain, but it looks quite misty now & is quite cold. Our local weather is suggesting St. Austell could see some snow. Pretty much, all high ground from us to the East & north of, is suppose to see some snow of some kind. Blizzards are predicted for most Moorland areas, where drifting could be severe....

News just said we might get another 10-15cms tonight and tomorrow.
It's been snowing on and off all day and the roads have been quite bad in West Sussex, although the A27 and M27 have been quite clear from Chichester through to Southampton, so they have been clearing that quite well, just not any other roads.

Still no snow down here. 2 DegC yesterday all day, 0 DegC last night and now this morning. Had to take Deb to work today as her battery was dead. Bloody Rovers. - Not much point going back to bed now. :dry:
More rain heading our way today & tomorrow. Could be interesting with near to freezing conditions. It appears everyone West & North West of Cornwall is having a real bad time with it all.

The snow still hasn't melted here yet. The roads are clear though so that's good. Pavements are quite bad with compacted snow forming sheet ice over them, so not good for OAPs needing to get out. They never seem to grit/salt the pavements around here.
It was snowing all day yesterday but very fine and didn't really add much more. We drove to Southsea to see how tthe roads were and there were not many people about.
My wife's school in Horsham has decided to close for the day, so she is home with the day off. Better to be safe than sorry where young children are concerned.
Yeah, I see there are loads of Schools are closing due to the bad weather. Debs car has been ok since I jumped it from the VR6 but this Rover 75 she has will flatten the battery again in due course. It's totally random yet the Battery is only 12 months old & the Alternator charge is spot on. Just Rover for ya! :dry:
This morning, it took deb half an hour to de-ice the car. We had thunder & lightning last night, rain & sleet & then it froze. I mean, wtf with the thunder & lightning when its Zero DegC and below? Crazy weather down here but thankfully, no snow for St. Austell. Down West of us, Four Lanes had 2" of snow yesterday with Helston, Redruth, Camborne, Falmouth, Truro, St Ives and Penzance seeing some reall heavy falls. Truro is only 16 miles further West of us here. Luxulyan is about 3 miles from here (just past the Eden Project) and they have had snow. It's raining in St. Austell today with Ice still on the ground. :nuts:
Why do so many schools have to close?

It is at the discretion of the Head and the Chairman of Governers at each school. If they feel they are putting risk upon their staff and pupils then they will take action and close. Some schools do go a bit far though, like my wife's school being shut Monday when there really was no need.
I remember when I was at school (all those years ago) we went to school if we could get there. They only decided to close if not enough pupils made it in, or if something had happened to the school, such as a flat roof being at risk due to weight of snow. Biggest issue I had was living in a rural location and the school coach couldn't always get there in snow.
BTW, it is snowing heavily again here now. Started about 30 mins ago but is very wet and just creating puddles. Not laying at all. Annoying to drive in though.

We had again snow during last night, when I got up this morning, we had about 10cm, and there will be probably still more during this week.
Still no snow here. Had those polystyrene looking balls of snow, ya know....looks like fluffy hailstones & they melted away after a few hours. We have been warned of more cold weather this weekend, but so far, we've been very lucky. Daffodils are days away from flowering already in my garden, but the frost could give them a poor year this time around. I reckon it's all to do with the Mayan Calendar end on Dec 21st last year. Rumour had it that all our planets in our solar system were supposed to align on Dec 21st, yet they didn't. What did happen though was this:
Our Sun, Earth & the Black Hole @ the centre of the Milkyway Galaxy (which is our Galaxy) aligned perfectly. Hardrly suprising that our Jet Stream is miles further North than it should be with that huge black hole's gravatational pull yanking on us. It's perfectly feasible as to why our weather is so f'kd up globally atm. Severely cold in the north & so damned hot in the South, Australia has been on fire big time. Other beings must have visited this planet years ago for the Mayans to predict such an accurate calendar, unless of course the Mayans had space travel back then. lol
It definitely has been mad weather over the past year.

It was snowing quite heavily here this morning, but we have had so much rain in the last few days that it was never going to settle. In fact, I've had to keep running our sump pump to drain the back garden for the last couple of days.
Still no snow here in Norway. Hope it'll be a white Christmas, but chances are it'll be mild this year.
I will be in Finland this Christmas, perhaps even going to Lapland, don't know yet, depends on the family, if they're willing to go, which I doubt :lol:

Its been getting colder up here as well. Had a bit of frost, but not cold enough for snow yet. It'll be interesting to see if we get any snow this winter.
