I've been looking at all sorts of SD/MMC controllers for the C64 for a while. Let me know what it's like. I'm thinking of getting this or something similar.
I wanted to get the 1541 Ultimate, but it's even more expensive, but it also has C64 cartridge emulation which is great. But it's only a card which you plug into the expansion port whereas the 1541-III is connected via the serial bus.

EDIT: I was also interested in the IDE64 card some years ago, but the cards were sold out in the 3.4 version, but they announced to release a new version 4.1. As it is now, the card has still not been released, and we still have to wait.
The main thing which is great on the IDE64 card, you can plug HDD, CDROM drives, ZIP drives, CF and more to it.

There is also the MMC Replay which you can get from Versilia here which you could expand to include ethernet as well.
The 1541 Ultimate also features an integrated RR-net compatible ethernet port and the functions of following cartridges:
* Final Cartridge III
* Action Replay
* Retro Replay
* Super Snapshot
* Turbo Assembler w/ Codenet
So basically if you have the 1541 Ultimate, there's every function the MMC Replay has plus a lot more.
Hi,
I saw your post and got a kick out of it!!
I didn"t know such a thing existed!
I immediately mailed the guy "Derogee" who kindly replied me.
BUT!!
Apparently the 1541-III is no longer available. ;-(
Who can tell me where to get one and what is a reasonable price to pay for it?
Much obliged,
Nia.
I paid 80£ for it, but I got it (still hasn't arrived though) at the "Supermarket" section at Lemon64. You can find the thread here.
It also seems that the member jsaily still has some to sell, according to his post in that thread. In your place I would PM him.
There's also one for sale at eBay here for 120£, although it looks a bit different than the "original" one.
Dear Mr.Demonycleany-man,
I have PM'd the guy and am awaiting his answer.
I was just getting desperate and then your message came peeping around the corner.
He's asking almost double the original price, but then again, can't blame a guy for making a few quid i guess.
Anyhow,
Thanx a thousand times for the tip!
Keep me posted on how it performs.
gratefully yours,
Nia.
At Lemon64 is another guy selling a 1541-III, just look at the thread here.
I have contacted the guy and he's assembling one as we speak.
Should be posted by monday and arrive at the end of next week.
I can't wait for it to arrive!
Thanx for all the info!
Nia.
That's great news Nia. Let us know what you think once you've had chance to try it out.
I got mine yesterday, but as I have no C64 set up at the moment, this could take 10 years before testing :lol:
5 years gone, and I kept my promise, never tested it so far :lol:
I reopen the thread as I want to sell it, it's the only thing I kept from my retro stuff when I sold everything. But I have no clue what I could ask for it, as you cannot get it on f.ex. eBay anymore. Any clues?
:lol: At least you are true to your word!
I've no idea what it is worth now, but probably more than you paid. I can contact a few over on Amibay whom would know its value and let you know. I'm sure it would sell very quickly on Amibay.
That would be nice if you could ask there, I think I'm checking over at Lemon64, to see if there's one for sale, or if someone would like to buy it.
Let us know how much you want to sell it for. It sounds useful.
So far I didn't get one reply about the price at Lemon64 yet.
Did you have some luck at AmiBay Harrison?
