Thought I would try and get Jabberwocky running.
As I have mentioned previously it's jabber software for the miggy.
No idea what i'm doing so i'm looking fo a guinea pig.
I would like to send a message to someone on MSN.
Any volunteers?

You can send me a message if you wish (stephen.coates@gmail.com)
I won;t be on much over the next week though as I only have a very limited internet connection.
Whats jabberwocky like?
I have never used any istant messaging software on teh Amiga except for WookieChat, which I used to connect to IRC (and AmIRC, also for IRC), although I use BitlBee for MSN and AIM more often than not now so I'm not as bothered about other IM clients.
Haven't got my head round it yet.
Might be able to give a better opinion when I have sussed it.
Use Amirc and Wookiechat myself.
Have downloaded Botlbee but haven't tried it yet.
You'e setting up your own BitlBee server?
I wouldn't mind having my onw but I'm quite happy using im.bitlbee.org.
No mate, haven't got that much time on my hands.
It's just a bit of software for accessing bitlbee.
Not entirely sure what it does though.
Software for accessing BitlBee?
umm, please explain.
I'm a bit at a loss to explain.
I was under the inpression, I could just access bitlebee through Wookiechat at bitlbee.com
Will have to read the docs.
By the way, have tried to send you something on MSN.
All you do is get an IRC client, and connect to im.bitlbee.org. Simple as that.
May I ask what?Quote:
By the way, have tried to send you something on MSN.
/me doesn't see anything
Still not sure what it does.
But as I can seem to do anything with bitlbee either way, I think i'll give this up as a bad job.
Not getting far with Jabberwocky either.
Give that a miss as well I think.
I've you want to test sending a message to MSN when we are both online send me a Pager message and I will start MSN Messenger then you can see if you can get it to work.
My MSN name is classicamiga@hotmail.com
Cheers mate, will do.
(Not tonight though, gettin grief from the other half. She has walked passed me 5 times in the last 2 mins.)
Anyone around who wouldn't mind me sending them a msn mesage?
Will be back here at 19:00 if anyone is willing to help.
Sorry bud, am very rarely on MSN much any more. Otherwise I would.
Going to try this again.
Does anyone mind if I send them an msn message?
Cheers all.
I'm on now.
Might not be later though.
Does anyone know why there is a blue question mark next to this topic on the front page?
That would be because you probably selected the question mark icon for this topic when you made it back in January.
Don't think I did that intentionally but that was ages ago and my memory is crap.
Are you ready to try now?
Anyone?
I hardly ever use MSN any more but if you see me online send me a pager message and I can log into MSN so you can then try and connect.
Will do, cheers.
I also don't use MSN much. I you want tospeak to me, you're probably best off adding me to your contact list and then hoping I'm on.
Can't get the pager thing to work on IBrowse.
Will send a pm instead if that is ok.
Hmmm.
Are you using BitlBee? Or JabberWocky?
You seem to keep picking times when I'm not on. lol
Trying Jabberwocky.
The bitilbee thing was probably a waste of time.
As you pointed out, can just access that from IRC anyway.
Will probably try ICQ from Jabberwocky as well, but I'm having trouble registering an account at the min.
What server are you using for ICQ?
Don't know.
I have never used ICQ.
I've never used JabberWocky. I might give it a try later. I put my A1200 away though so I'll have to fire up the old UAE to use it though.
Don't know why I thought you had tried ICQ.
What have you tried besides MSN and IRC?
I do (or did, don't know if it still exists) have an ICQ number, but I never used it.
As well as MSN, I also use AIM.
Might try AIM as well.
Will test that on you as well if you don't mind.
(If I ever catch you anyway:D)
Harrison
Are you ok to try now?
A bit late to catch me as I work in the evenings. Your best bet is to try in the daytime, or after I get back after 11pm.
Cheers, will do.
Have just tried to send a message.
Anything come through?
Nope. :( I signed into MSN and left it running in the background so would have seen the message if it had worked.
Any ideas why it didn't?
For those that havn't yet seen it, there is a guide on how to set up BitlBee in WookieChat in the latest issue (67) of Amiga Future.
:( I just wish I had access to the internet :mecry:
So how do you post?
Had a look at that guide, wasn't too impressed.
Have managed to sort it out after trawling the net for other guides.
Have got Bitlbee working with Amirc and WookieChat.
Seems to be most usefull on WookieChat as you can be connected to several servers at once.
One for Bitlbee and any messages that might come through that.
One for your normal IRC chat server.
Can't do that using Amirc as far as I know.
As for my MSN problem, I think I know where the problem lies.
Jabberwocky didn't show any errors.
AmiMSN and Bitlebee both showed the login name and password is ok, but there is a passport error.
Still haven't found out what installing Bitlbee software will do that just accessing Bitlbee on iRC won't.
Will look into that today.
Right, now getting somewhere.
MSN now seems to be sorted on both IRC and Jabber.
As ever, I will be looking for a guineapig to test.
Any offers will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Installing the BitlBee software will set your computer up as a BitlBee server, just like the im.bitlbee.org, but on your own system, so you (and if you want, other people) can connect to your server rather than im.bitlbee.org.
I don't think it is possible to have multiple servers at once on AmIRC. I havn't seen any option for doing that.
I think WookieChat is a bit better than AmIRC anyway.
I got your request to add me as a friend and I added you as well.
Hehe
Your leaching it of someone else. (Don't if that is the right spelling either)
Someone is getting a rawdeal.
Ste
Got that last night.
Looks like it is working ok then.
Cheers mate.
Amirc seems better supported for Arexx but Wookiechat allows the multiple servers option.
So I will stick with Wookiechat.
Off the top of your head can you think of any pros and cons to installing Bitlbee?
Have now chatted to somebody in MSN with Wookiechat.
All working well.
Haven't tested Jabberwocky yet, but not in any rush to do so as I cannot find a Yahoo server.
Did have one but it has been off line for a while now.
Never got round to sorting IRC on it anyway.
Wookiechat is doing everything I need, so I will stick with that.
There arn't really any pros to installing BitlBee unless you already run your own server.
It is really just easier to connect to im.bitlbee.org.
Can chat in MSN with Jabberwocky, if connected to a server that has an MSN transport.
It supposed possible if the server hasn't got a MSN Transport.
Aparently if you visit another sever that does have a MSN transport, you can use that.
Can't get that to work though.
Be simpler I think to log onto a server that has all the neccessary transports.
Not easy finding one though.
Seems this type of thing is much easier using Bitlbee and IRC.
Anyone know what advantages there are of Jabber over Bitlbee?
