its always good to turn them on every so often to stop the awefull BitROT monster from calling.

A little while back now an old friend on the EAB forums, inspired me into making an ultimate A600, i manged to swap a spare wireless router for a basic A600, and then i started building.

here she is finished, but that is not even half the story

I have added and updated this project, i must really take more shots methinks. one of the majot upgrades to this is a 4MB SRAM card (as opposed to 2MB) my hope is to develop and redevelop a project by Lord Vader LDV, an 8MB cpu clip on ram board :D

The bottom color is great. We can see many cd-roms in A1200s but in A600 is not so easy... It's really nice.

Great mod to the A600. Makes me want to do that to my A600 now.

There is one mod still left for your little Amiga, but with the extras already in the case it might not fit. The A600 68030 accelerator, which also adds more fast ram.

Would then basically end up with an A3000 spec mini Amiga, but with 3.1 KS.

I dont know much about restoring and such, but that to me looks very nice, a good job u did there!

There is a file on aminet on how to use 72 pin SIMMS in a 600. zipped html file can be downloaded from here.

That Tabajara is an awesome hack, it allows you to use any size of 72 pin SIMM (>1MB) as Chip Ram.... you only actaully get 1MB Chip (for 2MB Total) pretty awesome i have a ton of 2MB sticks!!!!!

I have since swapped the monitor for a 17" Black Crt and i'm also expecting a hd off zetro some time soon (hint hint m8 ;)) as my fujitshite packed in and it was quite noisey too!

I also have an Optical mouse and trilogic dual joystick / mouse convertor as stated in sig!

Ohh... i was going to ask, what scan-doubling / flicker fixing unit are you using on that miggy? and how much was it?

Ahhh yes... i have seen this mod... its a great mod... not to my taste but still impressive work!

So what is that mod exactly? Looks like a lot of extras in the case, but I don't quite understand what all the additional buttons and switches on the case are for, or the extra outputs.

And is that little LCD screen displaying the whole Amiga display? If so that is really cool.

Just studied the images and the LCD is the Amiga display, there are several sound jacks added to the back and what looks like a 3.5" male ide connector with power connector on the left hand side. I'd love to know what the silver thing is though.

The silver thing attached under the top of the case? To me it looks like a remote control.

i would say its "just in the picture" as it holds down the keyboard ribbon matrix

it got speakers and a custom built audio mixer...

But what abou everything else in the case? I see what looks like a CPU fan? And some sort of kickstart addition on the very left. Looks like a complex project.

That looks like a great mod inside but the outside is not to my taste either just stopped short of view meters like old 70's hifi's!

anyway back to questions from Harrison & Zetro.

As i told Harrison last night on pager messager when i first got my Amiga 1200 i didn't even know it had a scan doubler inside i knew it had some kind of VGA adaptor but that was as much as i knew (i had assumed it cost something like £15 cause i had no idea what a scan doubler was back then!)

Ah the good old DCE internal scandoubler. Saw one on the net the other day. Pricy bit of kit nowadays. Wish i had one.

Can the A600 support 16MB fast ram? I thought ECS machines could only accept 9MB (total system ram 11MB). Or is that something that the A630 adds (the ability for more)?

Also any ideas how the LCD is hooked up?

The specifications are as follows:

ESCOM Amiga 1200
IndivisionAGA (hooked up to the LCD-screen)
Apollo 68030-40mHz with 16MB Fast-RAM
40GB 2.5 IDE HD
Mikromys Mouse Adapter (optical mouse connected)
Easynet Wireless PCMCIA (ADSL)

My Amiga is running MagicWB in 16 colours with MagicCopper installed. The resolution is 640 x 512, which is flickerfree thanks to the IndivisionAGA.

Really wish I could have one of my Amiga's hooked up all of the time, but I don't have the room (with so many PCs and other stuff already setup).

At the moment my main A1200 is on the coffee table connected up to the TV via scart. Works well for what I need at the moment. :)

Yeah it's rustic for sure, rebuilt the garage last year and haven't decorated upstairs just yet. Eventually that'll be my living room!

Finally i have a new place for my Amigas. I closed my balcony with double windows, brake a bit the walls to bring electricity and i put a new floor, and i now have a nice space to put the Amigas.

I can't believe you guys who have Amigas but don't actually use them! Maybe I would be the same, but I am suffering from some serious nostalgia here, at the minute. If I recall correctly, we had an A600 with an external disc drive so you could put in two discs at the same time - does that sound about right? Also a joystick, so that you could get really well mashed into the wall playing Lotus or run full pelt into the bombs on the various shoot-em-ups.......

I'm still using the Amiga several times a week. Even got a new table for it not long ago. :) Here's a picture of my current setup:

Here's the specifications:

Escom Amiga 1200
Apollo 68030/40MHz with 32MB of RAM
Toshiba 40GB 2.5" HD
PCMCIA CF-adapter
Micromys Mouse Adapter
Competition Pro Joystick
Old-school Goldstar 14" colour-TV

On top of the machine, you can see a PCMCIA W-LAN card, which makes it possible to surf the Internet on the Amiga. Great for FTP's, Aminet and simple errands.

Harrison will probably comment on how tidy the desk is.. well it actually is. :) The Amiga zone is sacred and littering is not looked kindly upon.

An Amiga 600 with an external disk drive sound right. :) Was great being able to have two disks inserted when playing games, as one didn't have to swap disks as often. A lot of new hardware for the Amiga 600 has been released recently by the way.. we're talking turbo-cards (better CPU, more mem), scandoubler/flickerfixer and so on.

Me not jealous much, of course (hem, hem). Yes, very impressed with the neatness of your work area. Do the dreaded Guru Meditations still occur? Used to have that with games not loading or crashing horribly halfway through some really tense bit. It would tell you to click the left mouse button, but sometimes you would get a repeat offender and just have to leave it for a while (a bit like having a row with the other half and having to go off for a walk to calm down for a short time.....)

Oh yes, still the old Guru messages. All great fun.

But, these days you can install pretty much all Amiga games onto an internal HDD using a clever program called WHDLoad, and that removed such issues most of the time, plus games load near instantly with no floppy disks needed.

WHDLoad rulez! Not having to rely on floppies for gaming on the Amiga is a blessing. :)
