We remain committed to empowering content creators to deliver high quality video to a wide audience, and we'll continue to offer services that will make it easy to find videos online in the DivX format.
It's been a wild ride, and none of it would have been possible without the support of our users. Thank you for making Stage6 everything that it was.
The site was actually closed down on February 28, 2008, but I thought I would post the news here in case anyone didn't know. When i first heard the news I thought it was going to be due to some form of legal action against the company for copyright infringement contained in some of the videos held on Stage6, but from this announcement and the blogs written by the DivX staff who ran the site it was purely a money thing. You just can't continue providing such an intensive video streaming site and trying to self fund it forever.
