It's a Kickstarter project and I'm not the initiator. I would like to appeal to you to make this project coming true, especially for it is not that much missing to get the project funded. I consider it as a worth contribution to the Amiga community. There is a recently added backing option called 'Wait for me!' that could fit to many of you like in my case. If you pledge, the reward is that the amount is charged against the purchase price later. You avoid the need for paying the full price at once and secure the option to get such a case without a loss regarding the pledge.

I just like the project and hope to reach some of you who are sharing this opinion.
I thought the group would be great to use as a central location to find other classicamiga and Amibay members quickly on Steam, so you can see who else is playing the same games from our communities for multiplay, or just to chat about them.

Steve Jobs is dead. It is a sad day when such a great technology innovator is no longer. Our country has gradually slipped from a "producer country" to a "service only country", and has diminished to near a "third world country", due to our socialist leadership.

Most family and/or co-workers do not know my "near connection" with Steve Jobs back in the 1988. At the San Francisco convention center Steve set up a completely networked NEXT computer graphics desktop publishing system, and from the leaders at the show I was the "first" to produce a full page of graphics, text, borders, and headline "Steve Jobs Has Done It Again!". I still have a copy in storage ... and Steve's assistant head looked all over the convention floor for me, because Mr. Jobs wanted to meet the person that accomplished this "first" ... but by the time they found me it was too late ... approaching my entourage his assistant yelled out "There he is!', and I thought I was being arrested ... but instead, was informed of my accomplishments.

I later received word from his assistant that Mr. Steve Jobs wanted me to bring all of my Amiga hardware and software and spend two weeks at his technology Next headquarters, demonstrating my use of AREX (IBM's invention ported to my platform) on my Amiga. He was not interested in the hardware ... just the way that I had interfaced all differing software (AREX GLUE) to each other, making a massive combined very large application.

My software was: 1) edit list of commands, 2) infrared controllers of single-frame video recorders, 3) time-base corrected video hardware, 4) video recording equipment with video switching of inputs, 5) sound recording and playing software, all controlled and synchronized with AREX.

I said NO, because I was needed to help "save" our Dallas Times Herald.

Oh, well ... he would have worked ME to death.

Bring out your popcorn and sodas. Close your curtains and turn off your mobile phone. It's time to watch another episode in the Amiga soap-opera series.. Can you contain yourself?

On the 24th of February 2011, an article was posted on amiga-news.de concerning a company called IContain. I've included the news item in its full below, so you can see for yourself what's going on:

IContain announces Amiga branded TVs, cell phones and computers (Update)

When a certain Todd Kleperis contacted the Aminet team two days ago to "discuss your library of Amiga titles" and ask for "guidance as to how to work with the existing fan base", the initial reaction over at Aminet was confusion. According to Kleperis, his company IContain is operating from China and about to revive the Amiga line of electronics. Why he choose to use Aminet as his first contact with the actual Amiga scene was not explained though.

At icontainprotects.com, Kleperis' company is indeed advertising cell phones, tablet PCs, various types of TV screens aswell as all-in-one PCs with integrated monitors - all of them sporting prominent Amiga logos. Obviously these devices are third-party products which have been rebranded as Amiga products by IContain.

You can't actually buy these products from IContain though: The company is mainly operating in the socalled Rent-to-own business. Using devices developed by IContain, furniture or consumer electronics devices leased to end users by Rent-to-own providers can be tracked or even remotely disabled should the customer stop paying its fees in time.

Asked about the reason for introducing a line of Amiga products, Kleperis told us that he was approached by a Rent-to-own provider that intended to buy not only the tracking technology from his company but also the actual consumer electronics - provided IContain could offer a "branded solution". As Amiga "used to be all about innovation in the past" (Kleperis) and other businesses like Lenovo or Sony were not interested in cooperation, Kleperis decided to offer Amiga branded devices.

We were told that the licensing deal was "cut just recently by the executor of an estate", that product just started shipping and that we should expect "worldwide press" soon. The IContain president would neither give any further information nor comment our hints that another company has already announced various Amiga products.

Interestingly, while Leo Nigro, Chief Technology Officer of Commodore USA, states in public that his company obtained a license from Bill McEwen and is free "to do with [the Amiga brand] as we please" - Kleperis mentions the executor of an estate as his business partner. The estate in question would likely be that of former Amiga Inc. investor Pentti Kouri, who deceased in 2009.

What's going on here? Suddenly there's a rent-to-own company that has many "Amiga" products available on their website. We're talking all-in-one PC's, mobile phones and TV's! I repeat:

- What the banana is going on here?

I'll tell you what's going on.. IContain have bought a licence allowing them to slap an Amiga-sticker on their products. Those stickers can be printed out for pennies. No tech-development necessary. A TV suddenly becomes powered with the force of the Amiga after being stickerized. How things have changed.

IContain is apparantly a business that operates in the rent-to-own market. They lease out products (like PC's) to customers for a monthly fee. If the customer can't pay, they can disable the machine from a remote location. Man.. would you own a machine that could be rendered useless due to a delayed payment or something? Innovative? Not "Amiga innovative", but perhaps innovative for the money makers.

The news has sparked discussions all over the Internet. Amiga.org, Amigaworld.net, commodore-amiga.org.. it's all over the place. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.

I remember being positive about the future of the Amiga back in the 90's. I dreamt about new wonder machines and the further development of the OS. I thought about demos with mindblowing effects, hungered for an Amiga laptop and I truly believed that the vision and philosophy of Amiga had a future. IContain and all that new stuff is NOT what I dreamt about.. Not in my wildest dreams could I have imagined the ups and downs of my favourite computer from 2K and onwards. I wonder what Tony Horgan from CU Amiga, Nick V. from Amiga Format and the other magazine-chaps would have thought about this if I told them this story 12 years ago.

Fortunately there are lot's of stuff to be happy about for us Amiga fans. We've got the Natami project rolling along (exciting news was posted there not long ago), AmiBay is still rocking, and Individual Computers released turbo-cards for both the 600 and 1200. Other projects are humping along as well.

Eat your popcorn, pour down your soda and follow the threads on all Amiga-boards concerning the latest news. This will be interesting.

Have a good one!

Hi everyone.

I've been writing about Amiga related topics in my previous blog entries. This time I'm going to do something different, as I've read some hot news concerning the Playstation 2.

While browsing Google News the other day, I noticed a headline about the Playstation 2.

It said "Sony raches 150 millionth sale of the Playstation 2". Man.. that is something, eh? 150 (!) million consoles? An incredible number to say the least. A true milestone.

The legendary console is still not dead. According to another article, Sony sold 2.1 million PS2 units in 2010. That's quite impressive for an eleven year old machine. A question is though; Does this hurt the sales of the PS3?

I believe the machine is still popular due to the combination of its cheap price and the availability of games. The gigantic software library of the PS2 is not to be sneezed at. You've got more than 10.000 titles to choose from!

It will be interesting to see what's in store for the PS2 in the future. Will even more units be sold in 2011? I do believe so. New games will also be released just as it was in 2010.

Oh, I forgot to include information about a newer Sony Bravia television. This TV does actually include a built-in PS2! You'll have to see it to believe it... Check out this article. :) Perfect for the kids room.

Thanks for your interest! Have a nice day and enjoy your PS2! ;)

Turbocharging the Amiga 600 in 2011

Who would have thought years ago that new accelerators would be released for the classic Amiga range in 2010? I know I wouldn't. Especially NOT for the Amiga 600.

It turns out that a company called Individual Computers (Jens Schönfeld) released a brand new accelerator for the Amiga 600 a short while ago. The board goes by the name ACA 630/25 and can be purchased through Online retailers like Vesalia in Germany and Amigakit in the UK.

The specs are very interesting. Have a look:

- 68030/25 mHz CPU
- 32MB of RAM
- MapROM function
- PCMCIA friendly

This is the Rolls Royce of turbocards for the Amiga 600. With a 68030 under the hood and 32MB (!) of RAM, the old and weaker brother of the Amiga 1200 becomes a serious contender. Playing WHD-Load games will work like a charm and the responsiveness of Workbench will be completely different from a bog standard machine. Even though the Amiga 600 doesn't have AGA, it will be fine machine with this card.

It doesn't stop there. Have you heard about the Indivision ECS card? No? This card allows you to hook your Amiga 600 up to an LCD screen for example, just like you do with a normal PC. This allows for more choices when it comes to purchasing a suitable screen for your computer. Having a big screen is no longer a problem. A big plus is the inbuilt flickerfixer. Now you can run those interlace-modes without having to visit an eye doctor afterwards. Great stuff.

How about storage? Well, these days you can get cheap IDE to CF adapters on eBay or from retailers. These adaptors allow you to make use of CF (Compact Flash) cards as harddrives for your Amiga 600. You can plug the adaptor onto the IDE-controller in the Amiga 600 and connect the memory card. Then you will have a completely silent system with lot's of storage space. No need for those noisy old harddrives anymore.

Last but not least, I'd like to mention something about using the Internet on the Amiga 600. If you've purchased the new accelerator from Individual Computers, you could go for a PCMCIA WLAN card. These can be found at sensible prices on the Internet. By plugging in such a card in your Amiga 600, you can actually browse the web, send e-mails and chat with your friends. Isn't that something? Be warned that the performance when it comes to browsing is rubbish, but... it can be done! :) Things like IRC and FTP works like a charm.

So.. who would have thought that the Amiga 600 could still be used today, in 2011? I must say, when I think about it, that I'm surprised myself, even if I've followed the Amiga for years now.

Thanks for reading. :)

Wow, time flies doesn't it? This summer it's 15 years since the demogroup Void saw the light of day! Isn't that incredible? 15 years! I think it's fantastic that the group is still alive and that we recently released a new production (Versus) in co-operation with the crazy Swedes in Nukleus. If that's not enough, we're planning to release a new issue of our musicpack this summer.

My history with Void started back in the year of 1996. Back then I got in touch with an English swapper known as DT214. He goes by the handle Powerslave these days and was one of the original founders of Void. He's always been a friendly guy and we exchanged friendly and interesting letters for years. Later on, I too became part of the group and I'm very happy about that today.
I also started swapping with another member of Void in 1996. This was a funny Dutch guy that called himself Rabl. He later changed his nickname to Gone and became well known for his articles in various diskmags, for example Jurassic Pack. Sadly I don't have any contact with him anymore, but I remember how funny some of his letters was. He did also send nice cards for Christmas.

Last but not least, there is Rumrunner, the Norwegian organizer of Void. He is the coder behind the chart Versus and the diskmag Saxonia. He has also programmed a variety of demo and intros for the Amiga 500. We went to the same school together in the latter half of the 90's and we are still friends today. He's mostly into old-school American cars these days, but still gets a smile from launching his favourite Assembler and watching intense plasmaeffects on his Amiga 1200.
Even though we're still active, we aren't as many members as we used to. Today Void consists of the following maniacs:

Powerslave - Organizer, musician, ex. swapper
Rumrunner - Organizer, coder, editor, musician
Puni - Coder, editor, graphician, ex. swapper

(I'd like to add that we are looking for members even today, so if you'd be interested to join a real friendship crew, don't hesitate to get in touch.)

Now, here's the true story of how Void was started back in the 1990's as told by Powerslave himself:

The story of Void on the amiga started way back in the summer of 1995, myself (Powerslave) and Griz (member from 1995 - 1999) were in a uk group called Ultima, my role was swapper and musician, and Griz's was gfx. Originally my handle was DT214 taken from my 11m CB radio days, ( I now still use the radio with Alpha Tango call and HAM radio also, many handle swaps over the years and finally settled with Powerslave. After about 8 months in Ultima, we both decided to leave and start are own group. It was September 1995 and we both went to Blackpool for a day trip. Various names where flying around, like Mirage, Escape etc, then Griz shouted out "Void". Well that was it, it sounded cool and void was born.

The members started to join, Rabl from Ultima joined and then changed his handle to the famous Gone. Other members joined, some from Ultima others from other uk groups around that time. One thing Void wanted to do was discover new uk sceners, so a lot of members joined from being "Indys" Independants as they were known as.

Names like Snoopy, Jay, Skinner, Hurricane, Raptor, Killit, Furrball, soon joined and this brought countries like Norway and Poland and Holland into the Void group. By the beginning of 1996, void had many members in 4 countries.

Later in 1996, the dutch group S2 joined void as a sub group, which had only two members, Styles and Scandal. With there help they released the Macron BBS intro on the 22/07/96.

The memberlist at this stage consisted of:

DT214 - Organiser, Musician & Swapper (England)
Griz - Organiser, Gfx (England)
Jay - Organiser, Coder & Swapper (England)
Snoopy - Coder & Swapper (England)
Killit - Coder & Swapper (England)
Furrball - Gfx & Swapper (England)
Rabl - Organiser, Gfx & Swapper (Holland)
Styles - Musician & Swapper (Holland)
Scadal - Coder, Gfx & Swapper (Holland)
Zany - Musician & Swapper (Norway)
Hurricane	- Swapper (Norway)
Raptor - Coder & Swapper (Poland)

Over the years we grew from strength to strength and released many good intro's and demo's at the Breakpoint and the Gathering demo parties. Punisher/Gods and many old-school groups joined and brought the music from Maze with him to enhance the demo musics.

Soon, I discovered a new coder, a learner who has turned out to be a good friend also, His name was Rumrunner and mainly coding with his A500, he showed the big groups in early 2000 that it was still possible to make routines without the AGA chipset.

Void members work was found in various packs and mags over the years, LSD's Grapevine returned and so Gone had articles within this, as well as Jurrasic Park, I was honoured to be with the hitpack series from Gods for my music and the early Kickdown packs from a group now RIP called Syndrome.

The rest is now history. During the last years, we've released new issues of both Versus and Saxonia, a few small demos and our new musicpack series Absolute Dølle. We hope to make more in the future and we also raise our glasses for new 15 years of friendship and fun! Cheers guys!

Thanks for reading! :)

PS: Greetings to all former and current members of Void!!
