Hello all,

Lately it seems that most of my posts are over that Fallout project, perhaps giving the impression that I have nothing else on my mind.
Well next to Fallout I also enjoyed a load of other games and sometimes look up the intros of games I liked a lot on Youtube

Here are a couple of my favorite;

Perhaps some of you can post yours

Frontier: Elite 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUAPjA5eWkY) is one of my favourite intros, that was the same on the Amiga and PC. I can't believe one of the comments for this intro said the music was crap! Also watch the Intro remake someone has created which is also on youtube.

Favourite PC-game intros? Here's a few favourites of mine:

- The intro to Warcraft III

This one is full of atmosphere and incredibly detailed. Well worth watching. Would also like to mention that the cinematics throughout the game are excellent.

- The intro to Civilization and Civilization 4

Just have to mention the intro to the first Civilization game, even though I only played it on the Amiga. ;) I have a hunch that the intro is the same on the PC. Also, the intro for Civilization 4 is pretty good.

- The intro for The Secret of the Monkey Island

There are probably several others I could mention, but I've enjoyed watching these ones. As for the one in Civilization, I guess it's not the most entertaining one, but I've included it because of the good memories I have from watching it the first times.

The intro of Warcraft III is truly awesome, but lately I have seen many breathtaking intros.

Another PC game intro that cannot go without being mentioned has to be from Half Life. I love the intro sequence as you begin the game with you travelling along on the train, able to move around and look out at the landscape and then the tunnel system, but not able to do anything.

Can't remember the specific intro, but the story cut scenes from Giants: Citizen Kabuto are still enjoyable, to me, to this day.

I received a free copy of Giants with a graphics card I bought years ago, but for some reason I never actually played it. Was the game good? Would it still be worth playing?

If your talking about GIANTS - Citezens Of Cabuto (I think thats correct). THen I would say yes. I like you didnt play it, then remembered I had it, installed it and thought doh, why didnt i play this before. I like BOB, he is cool.

I will have to give it a play sometime then as I always see people mention it in forums, saying how good it was. I just hope my copy wasn't one of those that requires the exact graphics card it came with to run. I can always source another version if that is the case though. ;)

Also, try Armed and Dangerous, its almost a sequel to Giants and its features the voice of Tony Todd (RIP).

Its just as hilarious.

Tony Todd (RIP)? He's not dead.

I'm sure I have Armed and Dangerous somewhere too. :hmmm: Who knows.

You are correct, forgive my ignorance and confusion.

I meant Tony Jay, its the same first name that confused me.

Who is Tony Jay?

Edit: Ah, just looked the name up in Google and Wiki page has among his credits: "Super-mutant Lieutenant in Fallout (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallout) (1997 computer game)". Now I know where you got the name from! ;)

Ahum, Harrison, Tony Jay also voiced a lot of cartoons.

:thumbs:Best Intro ever for PC

- MegaRAce -

It is a game from 1994 from Cryo Interective
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megarace

The game has a 5 minutes intro, it's fantastic !! Pure 3D grafics, in that time i think it was made with 3DStudio 3.0
You must see this intro. For that time (1994) it is FANTASTIC

I remember that intro. It appeared on a lot of cover CDs at the time and there was a lot of enthusiasm about the game. Sadly the gameplay in MegaRace never really lived up to the intro, feeling just like the early driving arcade games where you moved a cut-out vehicle from side to side, avoiding the traffic, while the pre rendered background (track) continued to move.

Yes the game was poor, but the grafics were impressive, the intro was fantastic, even today is superb

I played MegaRace 3 on my PC and imo it wasn't bad at all.

Megarace 3 is quite a recent game, with full 3D graphics. We were talking about the original game that came out in 1994 and used pre-rendered graphics that ran much like Microcosm, so all you controlled was a car sprite overlaid on top of them. It wasn't good or fun to play.

I recently found the intro to Unreal: Return to Na Pali on Youtube.

Its not as graphically impressive anymore as it was when it was released but I still like the music and atmosphere a lot.

It would be awesome if someone remade Unreal and Unreal: Return to Na Pali with the newest Unreal Tournament engine, but using the music and voices from the original.

That would be quite cool, to update it with the current engine. Same would be good for HL, updated to the HL2 engine. Think I read something about that for HL but not sure.

Often fans make such mods.

I must be the only person never to have played the Half Life 2. As soon as I saw it required an internet connection just to get the game working I decided to give it a miss. To be honest though, I've played enough FPS games to last a lifetime...

Harrison mentioned First Encounters - has anyone watched the intro to another space sim - X2? I haven't played the first or third titles, but the intro on X2 is very reminiscent of Frontier.

Warcraft III - agree - and that Unreal intro, Ghost thanks for posting! The first few seconds reminded me of the Unreal Tournament Space Noxx (or whatever it was called) level. Damn did I enjoy UT. We should get a server up and running for ClassicAmiga, as it wouldn't exactly take much resources on a modern PC! Perhaps we can set up a private Amiga vs ST battle if we invite some peeps from the Atari forum!

If you have enjoyed FPS games in the past then Half Life 2 is definitely a game you should play at some point. Its environments, different set pieces and variety of gameplay make it far better than anything that came before. And the different areas of the game introduce some completely different gameplay. Some you will be exploring, or solving puzzles to progress further, or travelling by vehicle, whereas in other areas you might be stuck in a fight fight with enemy soldiers, the best of these being the Prison section and the section towards the end of the game where you are trapped in a building with enemies dropping into the area in squads.

The internet connection requirement shouldn't put you off. It's only to make sure the game is completely up to date when first installed, and there are ways around it if you really wanted. ;)

The X series is brilliant and any fan of Elite would love it (if they haven't played it already). The intros in this series have always been great. X3 is definitely the best game in the series so far, introducing even more to the series and offering a lot more scope to eventually build a complete empire of systems with your own space stations, ships mining, carrying cargo between systems and escorting trade routes. A great game.

Another game (series) that has a great intro and some very nice cut scenes throughout the game is GuildWars. Many of you might not have seen the game though as it is an online MMO style game, but as Teho will confirm, it is a great Online RPG worth trying out, especially as it's completely free to play online.
