View Full Version : Movies Greatest lines in movie history

The title of this thread speaks for itself, really. There are some lines of dialogue that just stay in your memories forever, either because they were funny, well-timed, witty, corny, powerful or just plain EPIC.

What better way to start this thread, than to quote Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back?

Darth Vader: No. I am your father.
Luke Skywalker: NOOOOOOOO!!!

- Star Wars: The Empire Strikes back

Nice topic and a great opening quote. :)

Some I like include:

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country:
"You have not experienced Shakespeare, until you've read it in the original Klingon"

"WHAT? You went over my helmet?" - Dark Helmet

"I kill a communist for fun, but for a green card, I gonna carve him up real nice" - Tony Montana

12 Monkeys:
"There's no right, there's no wrong, there's only popular opinion." - Jeffrey

Pirates Of The Caribbean:
"Me? I'm dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. It's the honest ones you want to watch out for, because you can never predict when they're going to do something incredibly...stupid." - Jack Sparrow

That's it for now. I will try and think up some better truly classic ones.

Hot Fuzz
By the power of Greyskull! -Danny

Nice one  I watched Hot Fuzz again last night and it is brilliant. Definitely one of the funniest films I've seen for a long time. The end with the gun battle is especially great, and made even more so because I know the town (Wells in Somerset) where it was filmed really well.

Nacho Libre
Nacho: I'm not listening to you! You only believe in Science. That's probably why we never win!
Esqueleto: We never win because you are fat!

Not certain if this quite counts but:-

Bottom Live 3

"Horrible Fish? Severely bloody ill fish? OOH! Sh1t fish!" - Eddie Hitler

Do you expect me to talk?
No Mr Bond, I expect you to die.

My mule gets the crazy idea people are laughing at him, now if you apologise to him like I know you are going to.

There are so many great quotes, it's hard to decide which to mention. I rewatched Bram Stoker's Dracula last night, and Gary Oldman has a whole host of great quotes in it. For instance when he delivers that "Do you believe in.. destiny?" early on in the movie I always get shivers down my spine. It's just so perfect, also considering how the rest of that movie plays out.

Dirty Harry:
"I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?" - Harry Callahan

After Clancy shoots the coppers hand off.
Give that man a hand.

Defo the way he says it.

If only you had seen, what I have seen, with your eyes.

James Bond: (after Bond has just lost his 10 million in the game, to the bartender) Vodka-martini.
Bartender: Shaken or stirred?
James Bond: Do I look like I give a damn?

"I am Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die!"

Great line from The Princess Bride

From Commando (you all know I love it, and I know you all love it too) not a direct quote but close enough:

Kidnapper: If you want to see your daughter again, you'll co-operate with us, right?

Arnie: Wrong... *shoots baddie in the head with an assualt rifle*

There are many gems in that film, also, after killing his escort on the plane and covering the face with a hat:

"Don't disturb my friend, he's dead tired"

You see what he did there? Excellent, pure gold comedy cheese over the top guff action film. Love it.

6th August 2007, 12:06
Arnie truly is the King of cheese! But that's why he's so good. Too bad he went into politics. Plus, he's fat now.

6th August 2007, 13:07
Well yea thats what happens when you get old and dont work those muscles...

6th August 2007, 14:22
Roger Moore and Arnie are the kings of the cheesy one liners.
They get some stick, but everybody loves the one liners really.;)

6th August 2007, 14:55
I haven't seen the new Simpsons movie yet, but the parody of Arnie in the trailer cracks me up:

"I was elected to lead, not to read!"

6th August 2007, 21:07
Megatron - Such heroic nonesense

Rambo 3
Colonel Trautman - What we gonna do John
Rambo - F*** EM!

Boddinger - B**ches leave

Lenny:"Code Black. That's the worst colour there is. Oh, no offence Carl". Carl: "That's OK. I get it all the time".

The one with the assault rifle is truly great

In any Simpsons episode, you could at least find 10 lines.

7th August 2007, 09:28
It amazes me how the writers of The Simpsons can keep coming up with such great episodes and ideas after so many years of production and 400 episodes. Brilliant.

Brilliant. That also what I think, even after so many episodes, they still manage to keep you laughing about the jokes, but that's also because they treat the latest worldwide occurrences.

7th August 2007, 10:41
That is true. The Simpsons has always been very topical and not afraid to point fun at anything and everything. And they also manage to get a lot of actors on the show doing the voices of their own character, making fun of themselves. The William Shatner one was brilliant.

Just been watching Evolution...

Gotta love this line

Dr. Allison Reed (http://imdb.com/name/nm0000194/): It's over, it's over. You did great! Do you need anything? Can we get you anything?
Harry Block (http://imdb.com/name/nm0428963/): Ice cream... I'd like an ice cream please.
Dr. Allison Reed (http://imdb.com/name/nm0000194/): Okay, what flavor?
Harry Block (http://imdb.com/name/nm0428963/): It doesn't matter. It's for my ass.

Or from The Running Man

"There's nothing funny about a dickless moron with a battery up his ass!"

6th November 2007, 15:56
Just watched the Spider-Man DVD, and one of Norman Osborne's (Willem Dafoe) lines still cracks me up every time:

"Sorry I'm late. Work was murder."

6th November 2007, 18:37
"It's 105 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses."
"HIT IT!!"
Blues Brothers.
