Hi everyone,

Yesterday I discovered that the Space Cadet pinball game has been ported to MorphOS. Had a go and it plays very well.

Made a quick post about it on my blog:

I have missed a decent pinball game on both AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS, so it is good we now have Space Cadet like Windows, hehe. :D

Guess most of you are familiar with this game. Did you used to play it from time to time on the PC?

I honestly can't remember this game from the name. Will have to go back and take a look. For me I mainly only ever played Pinball Fantasies and then Slam Tilt.

These days I tend to just play PinballFX. Normally on PC using my X Arcade controller as it has the side buttons for pinball. But recently I've been playing it on a 10" Android tablet and it works really well as it's large enough to hold at a pinball angle and get a good experience.

Back on topic, is Morph OS still in development? I've not really heard much for some time. I only ever gave it a try via PC PPC emulation years ago.

MorphOS is being actively developed. Version 3.15 is the latest public release. It came out in December 2020. A new SDK was released in February this year. They also demoed an x86 version (which is in the making) at an Amiga event in 2019.

I find MorphOS a joy to use. The new web browser Wayfarer is highly compatible with modern websites. Works with everything from YouTube to Google Maps - it is of course not very fast on G4 models, but it works. I have done job related tasks on my Mac Mini G4 with Wayfarer when I don't want to switch over to the PC. ;)

You've also got the modern e-mail client called Iris:

For the latest releases, you can have a look at MorphOS Storage:

I have a feeling that if MorphOS had "Amiga" in the name, it would be more popular for some reason. Having used AmigaOS 4 quite a bit, my opinion is that MorphOS is more solid. It crashes less and there are not as much problems getting software to run. Having an up-to-date and maintained browser helps a lot too.

PinballFX is great! Play it myself. Have some good scores on the Family Guy table, which was my favorite. Now I've played it so much that I'm more interested in the Back to the Future table. What are you favorites on PinballFX?

I remember when Lady T got a windows ME laptop as she was starting uni. That was the first time I'd seen Space Cadet pinball and it was pretty sweet. I wasted a fair amount of time on it. I can still 'hear' some of the sound effects now.

Built-in games just don't seem like much of a thing anymore.

I remember it now. Forgot it was the name of the built in Windows Pinball game. I played that a lot at the time, especially at work when waiting for something like a file transfer or video render.
