Hi,
anyone with PS4 VR?
We just got one for our magazine.
So far i am liking it very much. I have 7 or 8 complete games. Batman, Valkyrie, Loading Human to name a few.
Valkyrie looks great!
Overall, the 3D is quite good.

Did you try it?

DC owns one. I've tried it out quickly at a friend's and through it was really cool, but for the price I don't think I would use it enough, especially as you can really only use it for about 30-60 mins at a time comfortably.

I would however love a VR headset on the PC for Elite but they are way out of my price range at the moment.

I like it, but like Harrison mentioned, you don't play that long in one run, but otherwise it's funny. Last time I played the 40 VR levels they added to Trackmania, and that was quite great.

I even bought now a PS4 Pro, and the experience is a bit better, text is more visible, that was quite annoying for me, plus upcoming games will take benefit of the Pro model.

I can't go for more then 45 minutes in a run. Have to rest for a bit.
DC, You see difference from PS4 to PS4 Pro in VR? Text is more visible? I didn't know that. I guess that the Pro version gives you more frame rate. But putting the text more visible?

It's better, like I said, had problems reading stuff on the screen (BattleZone inside the tank f.ex., could barely read what the screens in your tank showed), with the Pro I have a lot less problems. IGN also mentioned that in one video.

Yes Battlezone, i also notice that. So it should be a performance issue...
I would look for a PS4 pro in he future, but only if i get a 4K tv.

The problem with reading some text, and also focus the vr in general is something annoying. I have to adjust the VR every 10 minutes. If i move my head with more speed, the vr, gets out of the focus position in my head. half a centimeter is enough to get blur and everything not focus.

I read that with the Pro the VR headset actually increases the resolution slightly, as well as maintaining better framerate when you move quickly. I understand thr ps4 blurs the image slightly during fast head movements when the frame rate drops to stop frame stutter.

Sold my "old" vanilla PS4 today to a friend for 200€, so the Pro only cost me 169€. Not too bad.

Only need to buy now a 4K beamer, I was looking for the JVC DLA-X5000, it's the same model than mine, only the latest generation. Girlfriend says of course I won't need it, women

My Yamaha A840 Aventage is 4K, so it's obvious what I need :)

Although I just changed the lamp of the beamer 2 months ago, and now everything is fine again, looks like completely new, beamer is really top notch (X30). The lamp was 300€.

My problem is that your eyes need to stay at a constant distant to the vr screen. And when you move quickly they tend to move a bit far away from it, and you lost focus. You need to adjust the vr.

@DC. I was about to ask if you had upgraded to 4K yet. I've been holding off until 4K starts becoming more mainstream.

The new Sky Q box is 4K and Sky are about to launch a load of new 4K channels, so that will be good for content. And 4K TVs are finally dropping a lot in price. A decent 46" Samsung is now under £500 and even the higher end ones are just over £1k so not bad. I definitely think 2017 will be thr year where 4K starts to become the new norm and HD the minimum. I do however still know people that haven't even upgraded to HD yet, which is mad. One family I know still have a massive 26" wide screen CRT which I just don't understand. If you are not desperate for brilliant image quality yoy can get 32 and even 40 inch hd TVs by lessor makes like LG and JVC for under 250 now.

Question for the PS4 VR Users:

After a half hour session & for about 5 mins afterwards, do you feel like the edge of your eye lids (not the eyes) are smarting/feel itchy... "Like a chocolate or a strong mature cheese overdose-rush"? :shades:

I had this sensation after every 30min session when on Oculus Rift via 2 x GTX1080's....

I also experienced what I felt to be, a motion sickness feeling getting nudged from behind over a kerb on Spa.
....Sat in a Caterham on the double S-bend on the back straight behind the pits. It was weird turning a GT500 force feedback wheel to the right for the first turn whilst getting a shove from behind up & over the kerb another way with my back end. The wheel didn't hurt my arms but whilst my vision kinda went off-level for a split second, both elbows ached inside. I had to let go of the wheel & flex my arms a few times but went through it. Only the once in 5 x 30 minute sessions. Weird experience.

Motion sickness, no.
But after 1 hour of playing in VR, i close my eyes for 20 seconds before removing the VR. If i remove it without total black for some seconds, if feel a bit desoriented but only for 5 seconds.
But no Motion sickness and no itchy.
And i have a very strange thing, i have small myopia (is this how you say in English? (I don't see well in long distances), and after a session of VR, if i go out, objects are more defined, like there was no more myopia ... :eyebrow::hmmm::blink: it only last for 10 or 15 minutes but in that period i can see much better.

A friend of mine can't keep the vr for 5 minutes as he start to feel very sick.

@ Tiago

It might be worthwhile asking a good Opthalmic Optition about this as there is obviously some eye strain if you can see better over distance for a while after. :shades:

The Irony that you can actually see better would just be egg in your face if long term exposure to this completely screwed your eyesight forever.

Eyesight is very very precious. Do check it out bud.

I'm still concerned about the long term use of VR headsets on your eyes. I can't see how it is good to put your eyes in a light tight box and have bright screens right in front of your eyes.

Also the issue with focusing. The reason it takes time after use for your eyes to adjust is because you are focusing on a short distance, but your brain thinks it's looking at more distant objects. This messes with the brain. Take the headset off and it takes your brain and eyes time to sort out working correctly again.

Me too H.....

60Hz on a CRT monitor is seriously bad for your eyes. I can not emphasize this enough. Even 75Hz long term can cause problems.....

I'm sure the early 3D Glasses force 60Hz @ each eye...... & I know Oculus Rift bangs 90FPS constant, but not sure if that is 90Hz @ each eye or 45Hz per eye? - Can't see it being 45 tbh.....

@ Tiago

You can exercise your eye muscles which I guess you are doing in a way, by being able to see a long distance enhancement after VR use. I'd still check it out though.

Well i guess you are right i will go to the doctor to talk about it. But when i say i see better after vr, it's just for some minutes and it just a bit. I am not sure if it's really an temporary improvement or it's just my brain telling me that that's the right way to see... :-)

Same here (without closing my eyes for 20 seconds).

Nice one Tiago. Better to be safer than sorry, but your Doctor might suggest you see an Ophthalmic Optician or Optician.

Not sure how things like this work where you are. ;)

They should work the same way as in the rest of Europe... some times yes, sometimes no...

I got the game Robinson the Journey for VR, i liked it a lot. Very cool, but once again a very short game. Loading Human was also a very small game.
VR is great, you can see that is possible to do great work with it, but games tend to be small.

Demon Cleaner

I read that Robinson: The Journey wasn't so good, graphically it was good, but gameplay wise it was quite fiddly.

Wanted to buy Eagle Flight, but definitely not for 40€.

I bought Wayward Sky, that's quite nice, also if you want to have a girlfriend friendly game :)

Rush of Blood is fun and Batman too, plus they're all only 20€, which is fine in my opinion.

Tiago
16th December 2016, 15:45
Yes Robinson is almost a "walking simulator", but i like it. But it's overpriced.
Rush of Blood is cool, Batman is nice, but to short. 2 hours of game...
Eagle Flight and Wayward Sky... i must look at those.

Anyone playing VR?
I saw the Apollo XI VR in youtube, could be a nice experience. But again, to short as a game, or experience, or what a hell they call it.
The market is still slow in VR. I just saw 2 or 3 games in last 2 months. And they don't look that good. Except Resident evil VR that looks amazing. But i have to confess that i can't play those games. Terror games put my heart in a dangerous work condition. I tried the Demo "Kitchen", and it' only 5 minutes, and i feel that my heart was on the limit.

I was saying that there was only 2 or 3 new games, but i went to check it now, and i saw 7 new titles... i need to check them

At the moment, after the operation, I can't sit down properly, thus I'm not touching the VR at the moment.

I bought Resident Evil 7, but didn't dare to play it yet :)

The VR now also supports 4k video through the media player (PS4 Pro only), although it only plays them in 1080p, still an improvement. Plus 3D is also working now since the 4.50 update, have to try that still.

Games seem to lack a bit, still have to wait until something good will come out.

Yes PS4 is capable of reading 3D filmes, mas is it just on blueray? I try to read 3d from youtube but didn't work

Harrison

I read about VR now supporting 3D films. Could be a great alternative to needing a 3D TV. Especially as they are stopping making them.

Should even work streaming in the Media Player from external device or NAS, I mean for the 4k, don't know about the 3D, but I guess it has to be true 3D and not SBS or TAB, as the PS4 cannot display these modes (at least that's what I think). My beamer has settings for those f.ex., it doesn't recognize them by itself, you only need to change to the correct mode in the settings. Surely the PS4 will play them, as they're .mkv files most of the time, but I would be surprised if the VR has an option to switch to these modes.

But the VR is still only 1080p right? So even watching 4K you are not really.
