View Full Version : GTA V anyone?

I'm quite surpised that there's no thread here yet about GTA V, with all that hype. I'm really looking forward to the game, because I always liked them, finished GTA IV some time ago only, and I'm eager to see what the new one looks like.

From all the reviews I've seen yesterday, it must be THE game of this generation consoles, contentwise, visually and gameplaywise. The map is apparently bigger than those from GTA San Andreas, GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption combined, which tells a lot.

The game is also the second most expensive thing ever done in entertainment, Pirates of the Carribean 3 being the most expensive, with a budget of 300.000.000$, GTA V being at 266.000.000$. Wow!

I made a good deal on the game, I bought it for the 360, although I could download it for the PS3, but I would like to enjoy perhaps a bit the online part of the game, thus buying it. When I pre-ordered it, the price was 37.95£, when it was in dispatch yesterday, it was at 33.50£, and when I got the mail that it was shipped, yesterday evening at 19:20, I finally got it for 29.15£ (35€), quite good price. I can see now, that the 360 version is at 55.99£ at the moment, although Amazon Germany still has it in stock for 50€.

I also ordered the strategy guide, the limited hard cover edition, I guess I might use it a lot, as, like mentioned before, there's so much content, you might wanna peek from time to time. The guide has 448 pages.

So is anyone else interested, or do we have some of the GTA haters here?

Interested, but not buying it until the price drops a bit. Still got a huge backlog of games to complete (including GTA IV), and with the PS4 right around the corner...

Frankly, I'm more interested in the wild west setting á la Red Dead Redemption.

It seems that their next game will be Agent, although I was expecting RDR 2 too, it was really brilliant game. I don't lose my hopes though...

I hear you can have sex with women in this game. I expect this will be the first time for many queuing up for the game! ;)

I've played all of the previous GTA games and enjoyed them, but I did get a bit bored with IV. I will play it eventually once it's available on offer under £10 but I can wait. I'm waiting for IMO some much more interesting games to be released, such as X rebirth.

I've also got loads of games still to play, and many I'm part way through.

Tell us what you think :)

Apparently, the game made 800 million dollars in just 24 hours... that's already more than three times the production and marketing costs. Insane.

I suppose that's enough money to start working on RDR2. Get to it, Rockstar!

Harrison

So much for all those people saying video games were dying!

RDR2 would be great. Loved the first one.

Demon Cleaner
19th September 2013, 04:32
Loved RDR too, and I actually also finished it.

GTA V is great so far, I did some missions, and then I was fooling around a bit. Went to a fair on the shore, took big wheel and rollercoaster, stole a Porsche, drove far north, took a cable car to the highest mountain, came down with the bike, fell and was wasted, out of hospital I jumped on a train, traveling through the landscape for about 15 minutes with nice views, tunnels and bridges and eventually ended up in a "redneck" like town, stole a car, drove to a lake, stole a boat, cruised around to the shore, stole a beetle buggy, jumped some hills, found a little airport, was happy, didn't find any planes though, got a camping car, tried to enter the prison, didn't work, tried with force, got busted, drove back to the city, took an eternity, went to a strip club, managed to get lap dance with 2 girls, almost completely intimidated both of them, wanted sex, let down my guard for 1 second, was caught groping, got kicked out, tried to enter again, wasn't allowed, 3 bouncers attacked me, bad idea (for them), kicked their asses, police came, got busted again.

Believe me, it's huge, and also beautiful, and you really get the impression to be in a real world, that's amazing. Landscape is so vast and changes all the time depending on where you go. I wonder how much there really is that you can do, seems endless. With all this different landscapes, you don't need any other racing game anymore, just get a car you want, and drive it around, it's so much fun.

Hmm..does sound tempting.

Is it true that the game feels more like GTA 3 and San Andreas than GTA 4? So many people complained about the last game that the developers said they worked on making it close to the older titles.

Have you played any of the scripted missions yet?

I have no idea, as I didn't play the original GTA 3 for very long, neither did I with San Andreas. I just played and finished GTA IV. Don't know what the difference between 3 and 4 was??

I played 3 missions so far with Franklin, and they were quite good, so far I didn't unlock any of the other 2 guys, but apparently that happens once you're able to do your first heist, which will happen soon. I also did 3 missions from the "Strangers & Freaks" side missions, and they were quite funny, for 1 guy I already did 2 missions, and they are really funny, the guy is paparazzo and you have to help him get pictures of celebrities. Hilarious.

Actually I didn't download it for PS3, as I really wanted to play it, and I also would like to use multiplayer, and as I didn't want to start it twice on both consoles, I just bought it for the 360. It's also better for future updating. And as I already mentioned, I got it for 29.15£.

Btw, the 360 is my only console which is not modded!

Harrison
20th September 2013, 15:57
360 not modded! I am surprised. You actually have to buy some games! ;)

This generation of console is the only one I've not bothered modding to run backups. I did dabble with a CFW PS3 but the hardware was faulty and I got my money back from the seller. But I wasn't interested in running game backups, I actually wanted to have one with CFW to try out emulation and homebrew stuff, but decided it wasn't worth the hassle just for that so haven't bothered trying again.

Maybe once the PS4 and Xbox One are will and truly out and doing well I might then mod the PS3 and 360 for some fun with some stuff I missed during this era.

A friend I work with said today that he bought the game at the weekend and has been really enjoying it because there is so much to do.. Golf, tennis, flying, sky diving, jet ski etc...

He said he swam out to sea to see that would happen and was eaten by a shark.

I am becoming very tempted to buy it, but which format is another dilemma.. ps3 or 360.. if you had access to both, which one? I'm leaving towards ps3 because of the way their online network works, but equally the 360 version might be able to link with the eventual pc version. Oh, I don't know!

I have it since Saturday....... OMG what a f..... game !! Forget everything you ever saw as an open world, this one just blow everything.
Detail is super superb !! Every building is different, they must had a lot of work creating this island, i test to go around a single house just to look at it with attention, man, it's insane, they are very well made, even the back streets are full of detail, paintings, garbage everything looks real.
Lights are fantastic. The game at night looks a real night drawing distance is amazing reflections of light are superb, car lights, oh boy... you must see this.
I spent the first hour just driving by... more then 30 minutes to drive around the island and more 30 minutes in down town. Man, it's so good.
Combat looks ok, driving is better, look more realistic, having 3 main characters gives you a much better complex story line, and so one....

Played a few missions yesterday, made my first heist, which was quite cool, I chose the smart way to do it (you can chose between smart and loud, where the loud way is quite obvious, just run in, and gun everybody down), and finally I met, and play, with Trevor now, this sick bastard.

The heist was quite done well, you first had to get some stuff from different places, to setup the heist, then chose between a crew, bad, average or good guys, the cut of the money for the good ones is quite higher, but they are more reliable, and of course won't fail so fast. F.ex. the security alarm hacking guy can keep the alarm longer from going off, thus giving you more time to steal more, but his cut is then also at 15%.

Harrison
25th September 2013, 08:09
How involved is a heist? Do you just run around collecting stuff until you run out of time, our is it more tactical than that?

Basically the one I did now was exactly that, I had approx. 1 minute to break as many glass and steal jewelry as possible, when time ran out, you had to leave/escape. So in the end I gathered 3.900.000$, if I'm faster or happen to have more time, I can gather even more, because I missed 2 out of 20, which also didn't reward me the gold medal (for that mission).

After the money is then split to the crew you hired, your main character(s) share the rest, and you can keep it.

But like I mentioned before, the whole heist is planned from the beginning. As I chose the smart way to make the robbery, the shop would be entered as a pest control disguised crew. I had to drive to the company's depot and steal one of their vans and uniforms. And as some knock-out gas was used, I had to steal it from a truck, driving around in the city, to obtain some gas grenades. Then I needed to hire my crew from some guys that were available, one hacker, one gun expert, one driver. Then we drove to the shop, one climb up the roof, and I had to toss the gas grenade into the air ducting system, to cause the people inside to faint. Then the shop was entered, and I had little time opening/destroying all the vitrines containing the jewelry. Time was over, had to run out and escape with a bike, then truck, and go to the meeting point. One guy even died during the police pursuit, and I didn't get "points" for it, as I let him die. But I managed to pick up his bag of jewelry he had from the robbery, so at least I still got the money.

and finally I met, and play, with Trevor now, this sick bastard. Haha, I like how it sounds you're proud to know him, he's one character that has been masterfully developed. Well, most characters are. Franklin is your typical "nigga from the hood", and as much as I hated that looser CJ from San Andreas that I didn't even play the game for more than 5 minutes, I enjoyed watching this guy's story too.
Michael has some over the top missions with his family matters too. ;)

Can't wait for the PC release, up to now I watched a few let's plays on youtube and I freaking love them and don't want to spoil anything for myself, but can't stop watching...
I've lost the interest in GTA after the 3rd one, it looked and felt all the same all the time for me, enjoyed a bit of Prototype, loved how you can use super-powers and from than most sandboxes looked just plain simple, but GTA5... GTA5 is one hell of a game that'll make me comeback to sandboxes.

Around 130-170 zloty for digital, 190-240 zloty for disc, on Allegro.pl

Although I've no idea if the game is region or language locked, most of them state they are the PL version.

From here in the UK I can see as low as £33 on eBay, whilst mainly in the USA, though more competitive companies like Play dot com (http://www.play.com/) are a bit higher @ £48.00, which is about 57 Euro. :)

Can't wait for the Steam release of GTA5, cause when it comes to Steam, the best place to buy games is Ukraine - sometimes the prices are 50% off at the day of release, and imagine how much less you could pay if there's already a deal on it on Steam. Second best is Brazil, around 30-40% off.
Of course some games are region locked, for example with ARMA 3 you have to activate it on Steam using VPN but after that all should work without any problems. Well worth it since the VPN versions ~60pln and "normal" ~120pln.

Harrison
27th September 2013, 13:23
How do you buy games from Steam in a different region/country? I've only ever used the Steam client on both PC and Android (not even the website version). Can you just go to each countries separate Steam site and purchase?

The only exception is key selling sites such as Play-sc.com (recommended) whom sometimes offer other region keys and give VPN or other instructions on how to activate them in your own region. One such game for me was a Russian key, and in the instructions they provided the English download patch which turned the game completely into the English version.

Shoonay
27th September 2013, 13:56
You can't do it on yourself, not legally at least ;)

Switching to a different region is easy, just type in your browser: http://store.steampowered.com/?cc=## (http://store.steampowered.com/cc=##) where ## is the region code, eu = Europe; br = Brazil; ru=Russia and etc.
But you can only see the prizes that way I think, it will check your IP. Heard you can buy using VPN or TOR but you know, it's not very legal and Steam might ask you for why your location changed or something...

The perfectly legal way is to find someone or a shop that sells Steam games as codes or even better - gifts.
Heard people got together on different forums and one person bought something on Steam for them, and the other person bought the game in their region and gifted it. Steam has a great system for trading, you can see what the seller gave you and until both sides don't approve it nobody gets their item.

As for myself, I'm simply using Allegro.pl - seen one guy from Ukraine that sells super-cheap games as gifts so they're 100% legit, but others have good deals too, even as keys.

Teho

Steam is great for sales only as far as I'm concerned. When there are sales you can make some insane deals. But full price? Heck retail copies are cheaper than the full price on Steam! Which is why I still buy many physical copies of PC games. 99% of the time you can just enter the key into Steam and activate it there anyways. Mad.

In fact, that is how several PC games I've bought physically lately works. It's just a Steam installer, the game files and a key. You can't install it without Steam anyways. Which brings up another problem, my physical copies are worthless to sell because the key has been used. Not that I sell my games, but remember the debacle when the Xbox One originally wouldn't allow you to sell your physical games? That's been here a while already with a lot of PC games, but I hear no complaining. Strange, isn't it?

Dunno, might be a region thing, piracy is still pretty big here and the sellers know it, that's why they buy less physical copies, meaning they have to pay more for them, so they're selling it for more to get some profit.

 It was definitely like that in the early days Kin, but times have changed for the better. :)

@Teho. Indeed. Pretty much all games, even retail copies require some form of online service. If it isn't Steam, then its Origin or UPlay. Both horrible compared to Steam.

And indeed, PC users have been using Steam for years to buy and run their games, and they haven't complained about not being able to transfer the keys to others. I read a quote yesterday that it is now estimated that over 70% of all PC game sales are now through Steam! Definitely seems to have become the standard gaming platform for the PC, which is probably the reason for them creating the upcoming SteamOS and the SteamBox.

I think the big different is that many PC games tend to buy and keep their games, whereas console games have a fast turnover with gamers wanting to get rid of them as soon as they are completed. Although if you by from PSN you can't transfer them can you? I forget.

Well the most expensive AAA titles go for €50 on Steam. In retail here they go for 399kr, which is also just about €50. However the cheaper places like coolshop.com sell them for 350kr, which is significantly less than Steam. And they're shipping a physical product to you, not just giving you a digital copy. No, the regular price on Steam generally isn't favorable, but there's no beating them on sales. So I tend to wishlist games I want on Steam and wait for a sale. I have a long backlog of games in my library to play anyway. If there's something I want right away I usually end up with the physical copy, which is then activated on Steam anyway.

Nope, can't transfer PSN games either. But on PSN you have cross-buy for many titles now, which means you buy a game once and get poth the PS3 and the Vita version. And with PS+ you get synced gamesaves so can jump between systems and continue the same game. The other consoles don't have anything like that (yet).

But yeah, you can't trade keys on Steam and nobody's complaining. But that's not what I meant. I'm talking about the physical copies. Even they contain just a Steam installer and a Steam activation key now. Meaning once you've used it even your physical copy is untradeable. Haven't seen anyone complain about that either, but the gaming world went into an uproar when Microsoft wanted to do the same thing. But it's as you say, most console players do trade away their games while PC gamers do not. Generally. And there was much more that was wrong with the initial plans for the Xbox One than just that, glad it got shot down.

Who wants to play this on a tiny PC screen anyway, 108" is the way to go ;)

I for one have my PC hooked up to my 55" LED TV. Still some way to go to your 108", but still pretty good. Haven't used a PC monitor for many years now. :)

No issue at all for me these days. The only thing I don't do is having it running at boot-up because it does pause Windows finishing loading the desktop whilst it is checking for game updates. Instead I manually launch it when I want to check for offers or play something.

When Steam was first launched though it was a completely different beast. Computers were much slower then though and had a lot less ram so that didn't help. I remember the first time I installed it and had to wait an age for it to update the client before it would even load up fully. And that was just to play Half-Life 2 i 2004. I remember uninstalling it once I'd finished HL2, and not touching it again other then for HL2 until the Orange Box when they made big improvements to it. And it's been pretty stable and usable since then for me.

Shoonay
29th September 2013, 18:40
Yup, no problems for me either, and I'm using the beta version.

I didn't have the opportunity to test it way back when HL2 came out, but I remember the rage in all magazines how pissed off people were when they wanted to download the damn game and it went like 1b/s ;)

Harrison
29th September 2013, 19:07
I forgot the download speeds. I think because it was so new Valve completely underestimated the demain it would generate, and so when HL2 launched and required Steam to validate (although you could AFAIK install it from the discs offline first) it was saturated with people accessing the service to activate or download/update and it was constantly busy so no one could validate and run the game.

Although I think most online services have had some bad teething issues.

Shoonay
29th September 2013, 19:20
Yup, Witcher 2 had problems on release day for a few hours, Diablo 3 for a day or two, but the worst one was EA with their SimCity servers, it took weeks for them to notice that servers can't handle so many players.

GTA5 has it's problems too, right now only with their social network, people can't upload their pics or use online apps, no biggie, but when the multiplayer addon comes out they might be in bigger trouble...

Hiya Shoons. :)

Yeah matey, completely Laggy on the client interface, even with a 4.5Ghz Ivybridge CPU & 30GB/Sec memory bandwidth on 8GB Ram. You can't even cancel a game from loading, despite having a cancel button available whilst the game is loading. You have to let the game finish loading & then quit the game. Wtf is the point of having a cancel button when it doesn't work? :eyebrow:

I don't think it's going to be long until the PC release, so I can join in. I've been so tempted to get the game for PS3 or 360 but the low framerate, buffering and running issues on 360, and some slowdown has convinced me to wait and run it at 60fps on the PC and it should look a lot better on the newer hardware too. Can't wait after all the talk and discussions about the game, its characters and missions.

I finished it last last Monday, i must sat, the level of detail is superb, unbelievable. Best game ever regarding graphics in exterior. Inside buildings is not the best there is, but the outside is much better then anything i ever saw. The drawing distance is just amazing, insane!
And the views from the Helicopter are almost real.
You can drive the full island without a single stop for loading graphics. It's so well done, that you stop to think that PS3 didn't reach his best.
they are launching the PS4 without PS3 getting full potential. This game is a proof of that.

i got good cars for the escape, put all kind of upgrades on it, then leave them on the escape area.
Also went to gun store, and buy all kind of guns, a lot o ammo, and bullet proof jackets.
I finish the main plot, in the side quests i already have a lot of stuff to do.
But i had to change game, i am now with Beyond Two Souls, i have a on-line magazine, so i am getting all kind of games from the media for free.
Beyond Two Souls came with a nice book full of pictures and the full game in last page. We also got Last of us, Last week the NBA 2k14 and tomorrow i think i will get Fifa 14... life is good :shades: :D:cool:

My magazine is just an hobby, but everytime i want to play a game, i just say to my girlfrien, "babe i have to work, it's a review, i must play"...:D:lol: thinks we do to be able to play games....

 That's quite cool!!

I also have Beyond Two Souls, and I planned to play it together with my girlfriend, as she loved Heavy Rain, although she wasn't playing herself, but she was sitting next to me throughout the whole game, desperately holding her thumbs and yelling at me to do the movements correctly, that was quite funny to see  But she also really enjoyed the game because of the decision making, and the end was quite great.

I don't know about Beyond Two Souls yet, seems to get some mixed reviews, IGN gave it a 6/10, on the other hand Gamespot gave it a 9/10. So let me know what you think.

The first 20 minutes of Beyond was not that good,
Heavy Rain was more an interactive movie, and this is more a interactive game. I guess the story will get stronger, but so far i didn't find as good as heavy rain. but it's to soon to say.

But you mean just the main story of GTA V right? There are tons of side quest and collectable things to do. Have you collected any of the space ship parts yet?

I finished main story only. Side quests just a few.
- UFO parts, i started the mission but didn't find any.
- Documents/papers around the city, i found maybe 5, but there are a lot more
- random events, i think i did 75% or something like that
- buying buildings and business, i did half of them
- I invested in stock market, but i loose money... :-(

I had to stop to play beyond two souls (not for fun, it's a job ... :D ) after i will return to spend some more time in Los Santos.
