Yes, it's true. A netbook for AmigaOS 4 will be released in Q1/Q2 2012. Price range $300-$500, AmigaOS pre-installed and included in the price. :)

I'm going to get one.. are you?

I've written a short entry in my blog about it. :) If you're interested, check it out:

yes sound good :) It would be great to see some pics soon and an idea would be to release it in custom white case with some Amiga logos

Cool. Any mention of specs yet? I'm assuming this will still be PPC based?

Interested too, looks nice.

Yes, it will be PowerPC though, using e300 processors from FreeScale which they go up to 800MHz.

An 800MHz PPC would definitely be interesting. And a portable notebook would make AmigaOS actually useful as PPC is a lot less power hungry than any intel CPU so might also mean longer battery life.

Are you thinking of getting one when it is released, Harrison?

No. I expect they will be expensive and I don't have any money at the moment.

If the price will stay between $300-$500, I will acquire one.

If you do get one please take some pictures of it for us to see it, and also post something about what you think of it. Would be great to find out.

AmiWest was held last weekend, but there was no news about the netbook. One year after the original announcement, there has been no news about the progress or development. Do you guys think it'll be released some time in the future or is it just wishful thinking?

I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't materialise.

But I hope it does as I would be very tempted to buy one.

So many Amiga related projects do get announced with great enthusiasm, but then never appear. I'm guessing its the problem of enthusiasm and dreams in the concept stage, becoming an overwhelming project, with limited development funds and only a handful of people.

Nothing mentioned about the netbook, but that doesn't mean that's a vapor. Probably work is still to be done. What I know so far, is that the second core of the X1000 computers will be utilized soon under AmigaOS 4.1.

That's interesting news. Multithreading in AmigaOS. So multitasking should be faster. Won't applications need to be written to directly support multicores though?

Yes indeed interesting news. I believe that applications need to be written specifically to be able to utilise two cores, but I'm not entirely sure about that.
