I'm probably going to the Gamescom in Cologne this year, the biggest games event in Europe. It was usually in Leipzig, but since last year it's hold in Cologne. I'm looking for an hotel today, and will then go there from Saturday until Sunday. It's only 200km for me, and as my girlfriend likes to travel, wherever that is, I will probably go. I also will make some nice pictures.

Leaving tomorrow. Gonna stay there on Saturday night, and come back Sunday evening. Gonna make some photos, if photos are allowed in this kind of exhibition? Does anyone know that? Check out the hotel I'm gonna stay the night ;) only the best is good enough for DC :D

My girlfriend checked some pages on the internet, and finally found the site http://de.otel.com/ where she got the room for 125€ plus breakfast, instead of the normal 200€ without breakfast (breakfast is 22€/person). It's in the very centre of Cologne, and only 3km away from the Koeln Messe where the exhibition is.

Sorry... missed this thread until now. I was away on holiday camping until the 23rd August.. The hotel in your link looks very nice. Was it as good as it looked?

And I've not been to one of the big game expos in years. Was it still large and well organised? Lots of well know exhibitors? And did you get to see many exclusive release previews and up coming hardware releases? Anything you liked the look of?

BTW, you picture link doesn't work. Goes to Myspace and asked to log in. Could you upload them to this thread as an attachment?

The hotel was gorgeous, room of 40 square meters plus huge bathroom with rainshower. And the hotel is just across the street of the cathedral, so that's in the middle of the centre.

I was quite large, 4 different halls big like a football field. And there was every well known company that I know, EA of course had the biggest "stand", with a HUGE screen, and 2 nice cars, a Lamborghini Reventon and a Pagani Zonda.

I didn't go to any previews or something like that, as you had to wait for 2 hours in a queue.

I got a FFXIV beta key, gonna try that next week.

I checked out the Playstation Move system and the XBox360 Kinect, and have to say that I was more convinced by latter. The Move system is like the Wii, you still have something in your hand, but with the Kinect you can move free, without an annoying controller.

One game that really got my attention was Enslaved, it looked very good. I watched people play, and it seems that it's gonna be very nice.

You will see everything when I post the pictures, I don't have them with me now, gonna post them in this thread later.

 Wasn't your girlfriend with you though? So had to be a little careful taking pictures of the girls... ;)

Great picture of you with the Storm trooper!

And a lot of pictures you took in total. Looked like a great event with a lot of exhibits. Did you get chance to see Dragon Age II running? That is one game I'm really looking forward to.

I forgot to also ask... how did Front Mission Evolved look? I spotted that one in your pictures... and what about Final Fantasy XIV and Guildwars 2?

My girlfriend was even pushing me forward to take a picture with the "Enslaved" girl, but I didn't even want to, which is usually just the opposite :)

Front Mission looked really great, and I'm also looking forward to it, as I liked the ones before. Although it looked more like a mech FPS, and not like a strategy game anymore, will have to see how this will look like in the end.

And as I mentioned before, I got the beta key for FFXIV, didn't install it yet though, I'm off work until Thursday.

Didnd't check out Dragon Age, because it's not the game I'm looking forward to, as it's more the old school PC RPG like Baldur's Gate, and I only liked that years ago, when it was still something new. I could imagine playing it on the PC though, but on a console, don't know?

With the first Dragon Age the developers created slightly different versions of the game for PC and console releases. The PC version was better as it had more control over combat and party management, whereas the console versions were focused more on real time combat only and it suffered for it. The PC release was definitely the one to play.

Yeah, I know that, saw many reviews.
