Welcome

But how does this work? Your links just go to a VPN.. how does that allow Amiga network gaming?

AmigaOnline
2nd July 2010, 09:59
Hello Harrison!
In fact, I use a private vpn to avoid using Kaillera servers. It allows better ping and seems to offer good network conditions through the web.
I use Client/Server WinUAE version to play game, it perfectly works if the ping is ok (UK/France/Germany/... should be ok). :)

Shoonay
2nd July 2010, 11:13
Welcome to CA!
That's very interesting, but a step-by-step tutorial would be nice.
What kind of Client/Server WinUAE you use? Custom build by you? The "normal" WinUAE developed by Toni Willen?
If you use some custom-build, how on earth are we suppose to get it without any links? ;)
How do we configure it? What's your Hamachi server name and pass?

Harrison
2nd July 2010, 11:24
As Shoonay (http://forum.classicamiga.com/member.php/519-Shoonay) said,it would be great for a quick run through of what you actually use.

AFAIK the only network enabled version of UAE was the very old Kaillera version of WinUAE, and that is what morst people still have to use if they want to network play Amiga games. So if you do have an alternative solution that would be brilliant. Or, are you using the old Kaillera version, with the server part running on a VPN to speed the connection up?

AmigaOnline
2nd July 2010, 12:38
It's the old kaillera version with server running on a VPN. It works very well if the ping is not too high :)

---------- Post added at 11:34 ---------- Previous post was at 11:33 ----------

Hi Shoonay!

In fact it's a special version of WinUAE (http://kaillera.abime.net/) which allows NetPlay. I have made some greats and really to use packages which allow anybody to play online. If you connect to my network (link provided in the first post), i will give you a client version to try it out ;)
Currently there are not many amiga players on the web, that's the reason why i'm looking for motivated players (not necessarly skilled :) ).
This online method works very well, it depends mainly on the internet connection quality (low ping if possible). If you live in the UK, there will be no problem at all.

---------- Post added at 12:38 ---------- Previous post was at 11:34 ----------

I would like also to say that virtually any simultaneous amiga multiplayer game (pd/commercial..) can be played with this method ;)

Some more games to come! Any advise welcomed! ;) Amiga is alive!!
Sorry for my poor English :)

Ah, Im with you now.

Your just playing multiplayer games? that use the serial port?
I mean Shoon's is right, killera is the only way to play any 2 player games online.

I currently host the old AmigaOnline site (merged into pspuae to form UltimateAmiga.co.uk).
I have all the packs that have been made for playing 2 player online, just need to re-up them.

Great to see you working so hard on the games for this.

Would you be interested in a section on the forums to dedicate to online multiplayer Amiga gaming? This could then hold tutorials on how to get playing Amiga games online (where and what to download, configurations etc), as well as direct downloads and discussion for additional games to be added? We could work together to get a section together and use it as a central place to develop this all further and then try to get more people from different communities involved.

Plus, if we could get enough information together than a final page on the main classicamiga site could be dedicated to a full guide.

AmigaOnline
16th July 2010, 14:45
Thanks a lot for your congratulations, Harrison ;)
In fact, to be perfectly honest, i think it would be great to add an online section to this forum.
My main objective is to find players and games testers for my Hamachi network, and i have the same topic on many amiga specific forums. It would be great if you may help me to organise my topic (i need someone to find screenshots and to resize them properly (same size for all games), and with more clear appearance.
Sadly, I don't have so much time to dedicate to a specific forum.
I don't have any link for downloads, because it not always allowed & appreciated by moderators.
All my packages are really easy to use, and all have a specific doc included to allow user to play online. So, the tutorial, could help to join Hamachi network, but then all really needed help is already there (text file, with detailled steps to follow).

As a final world I would say it should be a great idea in a first time to add this new online section. For the other details, it should be discussed more deeply if you want (i don't want to spend too much time if there are no interested players here (hope you understand)) :)

---------- Post added at 14:45 ---------- Previous post was at 14:41 ----------

And it should be interesting too to know how many members should be (really=not only for one hour, but regularly) motivated for online gaming in this forum :)

Harrison
17th July 2010, 01:07
We welcome the addition of downloads, so if you do have packages created then I would love them to be added to the forum for download. As you may have seen, we have a dedicated downloads section (which was recently added when I upgraded the site). I can add an online Amiga gaming section to the downloads area to host these.

The only thing that is a sticking point for most site is the inclusion of Kickstart roms in any download. This isn't a problem though as there are alternative methods to get those. Anything else, we go by the attitude that it can be provided for download unless we get a complaint specifically from the file's owners.

New revolutionary concept: AmigaOnline invents Shared Play! You can now play any solo Amiga game online!
The idea is to be able to play online all solo Amiga games in a cooperative/shared environnement.
Players all around the world may now be able to play the same solo game. For example each player could play during one life or one mission in the game, and then will be replaced by another player connected to the internet.
Many players may watch the same game session, and play when they want to!
This concept will allow any solo game to be theoretically playable online!!
Shared Play Games will be playable very soon exclusively on AmigaOnline network. Try them!

First Shared Play game (added to the Games List): Rick Dangerous (really good platformer! (with so many traps...))

Hi there!

NEW!: Thanks to the AmigaOnline Players List, you may now find Amiga players very quickly & easily! Add your favorite Amiga games to this list during your introduction. The most appreciated Amiga games will be tested online as a priority :)
Choose your opponents and decide exactly when you want to play online! If you wish to play some specific Amiga games occasionally, choose a Public Kaillera Server or create your own temporary Hamachi network!
The official AmigaOnline Hamachi network is now mainly used by motivated members to test more Amiga games online and to improve the AmigaOnline project ;)

Nice to see you still supporting and continuing with this project.

What I would love to see is some of the recent console ports of the Amiga UAE emulator adding network support. Imagine how this could open up the enjoyment of online multiplayer Amiga gaming to more. And wouldn't it be great if WinUAE added direct built in network play facilities? That would make everything even easier.

Thanks again for your support Harrison! Nice to see that there are many peoples liking these multiplayer features! :)
I totally agree with you but i really think that WinUAE developpers don't intend to work at it :( I really hope they will change their mind about it ;)
It's the reason why i do my best to continue this wonderful project, and to find more and more Amiga fans & players :)

Hi,

I have re-upped all the packs we have made in the past.
Just need to find time to add them to downloads section again.

Hi there!

The AmigaOnline project has been considerably improved since the beginning:

New features, new softwares and above all, new motivated players every day :)
Linux, Mac OS X and Windows are now supported and some tutorials are already available.
The first post has been updated accordingly.

Furthermore, about 120 Amiga games have been selected and we are now looking for many players in order to add more dedicated gaming networks and servers later.

We hope to see you very soon! ;)
