Hi

I just bought an Amiga 600HD. I replaced the 40mb IDE drive with a Fujitsu 3gb drive. I use WinUAE to mount the drive and install WB 2.1 with ADF images.

Then i copied WHDLoad and some games from my PC harddrive to the Amiga harddrive in WinUAE. I tried three games. Silkworm, Super Cars 2 and Stunt Car Racer. Works fine in WinUAE.

Then i put the drive back into my Amiga 600. And this is whats happend. Games start and i see first picture and hear some music then it goes crazy and back to Workbench i go and i get some errors like:

Exception "Line 1111 Emualtor" ($E02c) at $696A0 occured.

Quit / Restart / Make CoreDump

WHDLoad
Program failed (error #8000000B). Wait for disk acticity to finish.

Suspend / Reboot

I also tried to write an ADF file to floppydisk with adf2disk. I tried Phenomena - Enigma. I see the first picture and hear the music then the demo crash and the Amiga boots and i see guru meditation.

It feels like i get CRC errors when i copy things from PC drive to Amiga drive in WinUAE. Any idea?

That is a ram error. How much ram do you have in the A600? To run WHDLoad games from HDD you will need 2MB Chip and at least 2MB fast ram. Added via a 1MB chip ram expansion in the trapdoor and 2MB SRAM card in the side PCMCIA slot.

Also which version of Kicstart rom is installed? Only the last of the 2.04 roms supports HDDs larger than 40MB, or 3.1 rom can be used.

I have WinUAE configured like my Amiga 600.

Kickstart v2.05 37.350
2mb memory

The strange thing is that games works in WinUAE but not on my Amiga.

Here is some pictures from my Amiga

This is after Silkworm and Stunt Car Racer:

And this is Super Cars II

I have copied some ADF from my PC to Amiga drive and used ADF2DISK and they dont work. I see first picture and hear som music i Phenomena - Enigma then the demo crash. So i think there is some failure to the ADF file. Some CRC errors occurred when i copied ADF from PC to Amiga drive maybe.

ADF2DISK dont work. WTF :(.. I see 5 sec of the demo then guru meditation. Seems like CRC when i copy stuff from mounted PC dir to Amiga harddrive.

I changed max transfer rate to 0x1fe00 on my harddrive and reinstalled WB and copied files once again to Amiga disk. Now it works =)

That is good news. So it was just a bad partition setup causing the problem.

Do you only have 2MB of ram in the A600? If so you will need to disable precaching for WHDLoad games otherwise you will find many run out of ram trying to load. This is because by default it tries to cache the whole game code into ram for much faster loading and access. With limited ram you can disable this, so it loads each part as needed, and it isn't much slower.

Take a look here (http://www.whdload.de/docs/en/opt.html#Preload) for how to edit this if you need.

Yah i have 2mb.

I have tried some games. Turrican 2, Ruff 'n' Tumble, Super Cars II, R-Type 2, Dogs of War and it works fine.

I will do the disable precaching thing. Thanks for the tip =)

I just checked my WHDLoad.prefs and i dont have any PreLoad entry in mine. So i dont use preload?

Here is my config

That is the default config file that comes with WHDLoad. It doesn't include most of the options listed on the config page I linked to. You would have to add them to the file to activate them. But as you seem to be getting games to run with the default setup I would leave it as it is from the moment.

You can also manually change settings for each game, rather than globally. For individual games you can remove the "Preload" entry for that game by editing a Game's Icon Tooltypes. So if you find a game that won't run, or crashes, then you could try this to see if it helps.

Now i use the shell to start games.

ex:

whdload dogsofwar.slave

how do i disable preload?

Like this?

whdload dogsofwar.slave preload

Yes that is correct.

You could also try:

whdload game.slave PRELOAD NOVBRMOVE

As some people have said that helps.

You could also try adding the following into your WHDLOAD.PREFS file as some report this helps greatly when the Amiga only has 2MB of ram available.

ReadDelay=50
CoreDumpPath=ram:
NoFilter
SplashDelay=0
