This factoid is a bit of a bugger for me.

People who regularly have less than six hours sleep increase their chance of dying over a 25-year period by 12%.

I regularly get less than 6 hours sleep and if you add in all the genetic, dietary factors going against me then I died 2 years ago.

It was only a few years ago that they were saying that people who sleep too much will not live as long.

They really don't know and are just guessing. Each person needs a different amount of sleep, so it would be different for each.

I think it's a case of "people die every day so what common factor can we attribute to that?" Sort of like "Stopping breathing increases the chance of you dying." That sort of thing.

It always amazes me how much money is paid to people to carry ou research on such things, when instead they could have saved the money and just spoken to someone with common sense. Although they seem harder to find these days! ;)
