Hi,

I am trying to find out if anyone knows what the minimum spec is for Amiga OS 4?

Does anyone here know if you would be able to run it with hardware such as an Apollo 1260 50Mhz + 64meg fastram with an A1200?

I would really appreciate it if anyone here could throw any light on the subject?

Thanks in Advance,

J.

Minimum spec for OS4 is a PPC. It will not run on the old 68000 series of CPU's. TBH it's not a huge leap from 3.9 anyway.

Ahhh as I suspected! Thanks for the lightning quick reply though. Much appreciated!

So the Apollo 1260@50Mhz+64MB would be able to run OS 3.9 happily enough then I suppose?

Cheers,

J.

Perfectly happy. An 060 is the fastest chip to have for classic Amigas and 64 MB is plenty of RAM.

Like Buleste wrote, you're going to enjoy OS 3.9 with those specs. :)

Also, welcome to the Classicamiga.com forum! Hope you'll enjoy your stay.

There's quite a lot happening in the Amiga community these days. Have you checked out the German Natami project? If not, then I would recommend heading over to their homepage (http://www.natami.net/).

They describe their project with these words:

Our goal is to build a succeeding Amiga model using high performance
components and keeping the original philosophy - but removing its limitations.

The NatAmi is an AMIGA compatible machine, allowing you to natively run original Commodore Amiga software.

Our believe is that the NATAMI is the next generation AMIGA that
Commodore would have brought out if they would not went belly up.

Forgot to ask. Do you have Kickstart 3.1 ROMS in your 1200? If you don't you'll need to buy them.

Welcome to classicamiga Jasybee2000.

I wouldn't worry too much about OS4 as it doesn't have all that much software specifically for it, and it is meant to be quite unstable, with a lot of hardware issues and incompatibilities.

You will be more than happy with OS 3.9 or even one of the custom installs of 3.1 such as ClassicWB. These breath a lot of new life into anyone's old A1200. :)
