I also bought an A600.
I am thinking in creating a console, with dvd case or something like that, without keyboard so my girlfriend alow it to stay in the living room... :D

I would like to put the A500 1.3 rom so i can play more games. will i have any problem? Will the A600 mboard recognise 1mb or 2mb (expansion) with 1.3 rom?

Just had a quick look on amigakit and it looks like the a500 ROM is compatable with the A600. Don't know about the memory limitations though.

AFAIK the KS1.3 chip should work perfectly with the A600. You can access up to 2MB of chip ram just as you can with KS2 as it is dependent on the Agnus chip and not the KS rom version. However I would suggest a better solution would be to get a rom switcher so you can have both the original KS2 and KS1.3 roms in the system at the same time and be able to switch between them.

However why do you actually want to replace the kickstart with 1.3? I don't really see too many benefits to doing this. There is a version of classicWB that will run on an A600 (works better if it has 2MB chip and some fast ram) and the A600 can be downgraded to 1.3 using the relokick disk. I used to be able to run all Kickstart 1.3 only games and software on my A600 just using this disk.

@Harrison - Can you use all A500 games with A600+relocick ?

I dont know about the A600, but in my A1200, using relokick or 2 mouse button reset i am able to use some old games, but not all of them, there is certain games that i cannot manage to play in A1200. Do you think that in a600+relock i will be able to use all A500 games?

Yes. The A1200 cannot run some of the very old A500/OCS games because of the different custom chipset and the 2MB of chip ram. However I don't think I found a game that I couldn't get to run on the A600 with the relokick 1.3 disk.

But even on the A1200 using the different degraders available I only ever found about 9 games that would never work regardless of what I tried. I have the list of these somewhere and will let you know what they are.

But this has changed more recently because if you use WHDLoad it will downgrade the system for you, so you don't need to worry about manually rebooting with a degrader disk. And a version of classicWB for the A600 exists with WHDLoad installed so (other than the AGA games) you should be able to run most directly from the HD.

another point to mention here,

by replacing the KS ROMS on your A600 to 1.3 you wont be able to use the internal IDE :(

Oh yes, very good point. Or the PCMCIA slot.

I can 100% gurantee that a KS 1.3 chip will work in an A600 (I've tried it) but like has been previously mentioned, the internal HD and PCMCIA slot will be inaccesible because KS 1.3 does not support them or even know what they are.

That's why for the best of both worlds a rom switcher is the perfect solution. Switch between real 2.05 and 1.3 kickstart roms for the highest game compatibility.

Yes, but they are a bit difficult to find at normal prices...

I can give you detail pictures of the hack on my A600 to switch from 1.3 to x.x Kickstart. You only need kick 1.3 and another one, two resistors some wires and a switch (with long wires to go to the back of the case like mine). I can sell you a Kick 2.05 v37.300, i've seen on ebay kick 1.3 at an affortable price.
