there is are advantages to your other half not being the brightest.

She says yes when you ask her out for starters. For the April 2008 Poster of the Month Competition. (http://forum.classicamiga.com/quotes.php?do=view&quoteid=134) He won it with this post (http://forum.classicamiga.com/showpost.php?p=23015&postcount=38):

May I ask how to view the topics which contained the two winning posts? It's just difficult to make full sense of what the said posts mean without reading the rest of it.

Certainly. In Harrison's announcement post click on the "with this Post" link and from that popup, click Thread: A sad day in the top-right hand corner.

Alternatively you could click the little http://forum.classicamiga.info/images/classicamiga/buttons/viewpost.gif next to TiredOfLife's username in Harrison's announcement post. That would take you to the right position in the thread.

Alternatively you could click on the "with this Post" link in the annoucement, and change the url of the pop-up window from http://forum.classicamiga.com/showpost.php?p=21885 (http://forum.classicamiga.com/showpost.php?p=21885) to http://forum.classicamiga.com/showthread.php?p=21885 (http://forum.classicamiga.com/showthread.php?p=21885)

Alternatively you could pick an word from the quote (or couple of words) that's likely not to appear in many threads (I chose 'goatee' but 'dress' or 'girlfriend' would probably do just as good on a place like ClassicAmiga) and click Search on the bar near the top of the page. Now either type the chosen word or cut-and-paste it and click Go. There we go, two threads one of which is this one, so the other must be the original.

If you think that is hard, imagine how hard it is for me to piece together all the bits at the end of each poster of the month competition!

Check the month to make sure no one voted for themselves!
Move any from the wrong month, into their correct month.
See which post has the most votes and is the winner.
Start new announcement thread to announce the winner.
Copy the winning quote location into the link in the thread.
Copy the winning post location into the link in the thread.
Log into the Admin Panel
Search for existing POTM members and remove that group from their account.
Add the POTM usergroup to the new winner's account.
Switch the display usergroup for that member over to POTM so their username changes colour.
Setup and send a new award to the winning member.
Switch the default quote month to the new month, adding the new month to the quote categories if needed.
Switch the forum link to the quotes page so it goes to the correct current month.
Send the member their 5000 credits award from the admin panel.

I think that is about it. Very easy to miss something out during all that.

How conceited would one have to be to vote for themselfs ?

< <.... > >.... no one saw anything right?!

I tried the 'with this post' link, but it still doesn't help in viewing the actual topic, but rather an error message.

Unless the error message is the post of the month. If that is the case, harrison must have made a big mistake with the contents of this topic, and some people's sense of humour must be even more strange than I though it was.

Harrison
16th May 2008, 15:11
What was the error message you are getting? I just tested the link from my first post in this thread and it works perfectly. Clicking on either of the "this post" links takes you to the single winning post page, and then on that page click the "Thread: A sad day" link in the very top right of the screen takes you to the whole original thread.

This is the error I get: http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/8896/caerrorcx9.jpg

Harrison

Hmm... so it isn't actually an error message you are getting. It is a No Permission error to access a certain part of the site. Not sure what could be causing this. I will do some permissions checking and testing tomorrow.

I've seen it happen once with someone nominating their own post. I'm not sure if it was an accident or shameless self-promotion.

Maybe they thought they made an exceptionly good post.
