This months Edge magazine has a half page feature on the Sony PSP and the hacker dark_alex.
It goes into detail on how quickly the hacker managed to hack the new 3.02 firmware soon after its release and then chose to release the custom firmware on Christmas day. It even goes into detail on what the hacked firmware does including the ability to run illegally distributed ISOs and the ability to run almost all dumped PSX images via memorystick.
It ends with a quote from Sony "Piracy is detrimental to the end consumer" and "We are against piracy 100 percent and will continue to protect our intellectual property and fight agains it in all its forms."
I would love to see how they are going to do this now. It's one thing for custom hacked firmware for a system to be released for people into modding systems to use, but now all of this information has been printed in a more mainstream magazine more people are bound to want to try it out and the word will quickly spread. Reporting such news in magazines is great for promoting the hacked exploiits, something I bet Sony haven't realised. :D

Good news! Anything that hurts Sony is fine with me.

They're instituting censorship with BluRay and I am absolutely 100% against that. They have threatened pulling BR licenses from manufacturers that press adult DVDs. Now granted I don't buy pr0n (why buy it when you can DL it free?) but that's still censorship and it's wrong. I just don't like Sony and their whole "we want to control every aspect of media" mentality.

They have threatened pulling BR licenses from manufacturers that press adult DVDs.But that hurts Sony themselves, I think that pr0n is one of the biggest markets out there, so when Sony doesn't allow pr0n on BluRay, they will lose a lot of customers.

/\ Very true. Regardless though, it's still censorship and it's wrong.

Someone once said, "You know a technology has made it once the Porn industry is using it!" I forget who said that but it is very true.
VHS was used by them instead of Betamax and it won, DVD was quickly adopted and that industry is one of the only that has found a use for multi angle! If the Porn industry go with HD-DVD then BluRay is going to have trouble as a video format. Whatever happens though it wil continue as a gaming format for the PS3 regardless.

If it stays on the PS3 for the games, that's fine with me because I have no plans of buying a PS3.

I'm neither pro/contra Sony, as long as they release good consoles, I'm fine.

I have mixed feelings towards Sony. But at the end of the day, all of the big companies behind the hardware or software are all the same. They are trying to protect their property rights against pirates and hackers, and try to gain a return on each item they create. Whilst also needing to keep the governments happy.
It won't stop me buy from Sony. I'm going to get a PS3 for sure as it is the most powerful system out of the three and will definitely be attracting the most RPG developers. That in itself is more important to me than the actions of the corporate side of the company.

I get where you guys are coming from. If new gaming was my number 1 interest, I probably would support Blu-Ray and the PS3. Being that I'm more of a film geek though, I just can't support a company that lowers the possibility of certain films that I want to see from getting released.

If you're a film geek, you are certainly not going to buy a PS3, but a very good DVD player instead. I bought the Panasonic DVD-S 97 with HDMI, and it just works perfect with my Panasonic PV500 plasma TV.
Oz got his Panasonic PV600 (model after mine) on monday, and he's just astonished how good it is, in comparison of the previous plasma he had.

Is that the 50 inch model? I've been looking at those lately and they do look good.

Is that the 50 inch model?Nope, 42 inch. 9th generation of plasma panels.

Cool. I was looking at the 50" PV600 model in the stores, but if I did get one it would probably be the 42" version as the 50" one is a bit too huge for the space I have for one.

as the 50" one is a bit too huge for the space I have for one. That was also my problem. Bus as I'm only sitting 3m away from the TV, it's just fine.

Awesome1 I've got the 37" PX600 (the UK model of the PV600) and it rocks. Great screen. Our cable box is plugged in through HDMI and actually does a semi reasonable job of upscaling the SD content. True HD content looks bloody sweet.
And the Wii looks ace too, got it running through component cables. I had to turn the colour down it was just too bright and vibrant.
