Hi eveyone,

PG send me this link some days ago. Looks like someone is working in a new Amiga hardware system, compatible with old Amigas using the 68060 CPU.

!!!!! IT IS A VERY INTERESTING PROJECT !!!!! :D:):D:)

http://www.natami.net/

I send some questions to Peter at Natami Project by mail and he give me some quick answers:

Tiago:
- Will it read Non-Dos disks or ADFs? Most amiga games are Non-dos, will
Natami read and run them?

Peter from Natami:
- NATAMI uses native floppy logic and aims to be fully compatible to all
Amiga-disks. Even the prototype had running the disks already.

Tiago:
- How will you get the 68060 ?

Peter from Natami:
- Currently we have 2 sources for 060 with acceptable prices.

Tiago:
- Can you get enough CPUs (used) to sell the computer, or anyone will produce the 68060 again?

Peter from Natami:
- 060 are still in stock at Freescale in large amounts! (but prices
directly at Freescale are non acceptable (~300$).

Tiago:
- In what kind of case are you planning to sell it? tower? desktop?

- Peter from Natami:
This is not deceided yet.

Some interesting q&a there. Yes, thanks for asking those questions.

I just took a quick look at the website and it has expanded with some interesting content added. There are now Q+A and Picture sections on there. The prototype boards look nice and small. Lets hope if the project reaches production they remain nice and small so that we can build systems into small cases.

I like the idea of this project a lot. Instead of trying to replicate the existing Amiga like the minimig is doing (so we already have the answer for that need), it is instead trying to evolve the original 68K Amiga and create an evolution of the existing platform which many of us will be more interested in now that the PPC branch as that is too limited with development to really spend money buying into.

Thanks for sharing the information concerning the NatAmi with us, Tiago.

Just wanted to mention that there is quite a long thread about NatAmi at Amigaworld.net. Visit the discussion through this (http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=25715&forum=25&start=620&621) link. There's 32 pages of info there. One of the members of the NatAmi crew is answering questions there and also participating in discussions concerning what kind of hardware it should be. It's very interesting, so it is a recommended read.

I've got good feelings about this project and I hope that such a machine would hit the market. I would not hesitate to buy one, that's for sure.
