It must be the time of the quickening, as gamers are soon to get the chance to live forever in a new Highlander game from Eidos.

This will be the third time the cult films have been translated over into the world of video games since the first movie's release 22 years ago, but the first time it hits the 'next-generation' Xbox 360 (http://www.game.co.uk/lowdown.aspx?lid=5789) and PlayStation 3 (http://www.game.co.uk/lowdown.aspx?lid=7068) consoles.

Gamers will follow immortal Owen MacLeod from ancient Pompeii to a futuristic New York in the Widescreen Games-developed title, predicted for release on the next-gen consoles and the PC later this year.

The superhuman abilities of MacLeod will be a key feature of the game's brutal combat - with Eidos claiming players will be able to disarm foes by impaling themselves with their weapons.

"The interactive experience permits players to gain a completely different perspective of the mythos, and experience the powers and advantages of immortality through the eyes of a MacLeod," said Davis-Panzer Productions co-founder Peter Davis.

Among the most highly anticipated features of the game are likely to be the showdowns with other immortals, as fans of the franchise will know "there can only be one".

What doesn't make sense about this is no mention of the Wii, surely the most obvious console for the game to be released on. Now, to me, that does not make sense.

There is one obvious reason. It might back the best control system for interactive decapitation, but it is very underpowered compared to the other consoles and PC. Maybe they don't want to trade visual quality for interactivity.

I voted it's a movie tie in so it's going to suck only because I am one of the few people in the world that didn't like the film in the first place and i love fantasy films.

Didn't like the first Highlander film? :o That is brilliant, although it was on TV the other night and the special effects, especially at the very end had badly dating. But a Queen soundtrack made it even more special, and still does.

For me the Queen soundtrack was the best thing about the film. Of the films the last one was the better one only because it drew to a close the films and the TV series as well. I prefered the TV series even though every episode was the same. I have a lot of friends who like me and are into Pen and Paper RPG's and they all think i'm insane for not liking Highlander. It's something i'll have to live with.

I used to like the TV series too. And Lambert made a few appearances in the series, which was cool. The second film with it's strange futuristic setting was just odd and didn't work.
